Not feeling inspired on girls names - help!

If we have a boy, I think we have his name sussed - Reuben John. I've always loved Reuben, with the nickname Roo. And John was my Dad's name, and he died last year.

But I have a funny feeling this baby will be a girl, so we won't get to use it :(

And girls names I'm struggling with. There's a few we have on a list, but I don't know if any are right.

My favourite at the moment is probably Jemima, but DH is a bit ambivalent.

Other suggestions are:

Thea - but has DD cannot pronounce her "Th" sound yet, it'll drive me nuts if she ends up called "Fee-a"
Tabitha - too catty?
Meredith - not sure on nicknames for that
Esme - just not jumping out at me

Anyone got any suggestions based on these names? DD is Matilda (Tilly) Hope.

Meredith is very nice :) Not so keen on the others, for the reasons you mentioned.

How about Amelia, Juliet, Coralie?

I love Jemima and Tilly and Jemima sound great together!

Love Meredith (NN Merry?) but had 2 boys ... like Thea too, and I'm sure the 'ths' will come sooner with more practice (nagging). But would you want same initial as DD1?

Rhiannon
Tamsin
Meryl
Rosanne

Thanks for your opinions.

Still like Jemima. I think Thea is going to be a no go because of the "Th" thing. It seems to just be a toddler thing with pronunciation, and I don't want to saddle a child with a name they struggle to say. And it'll drive me batty.

Meredith I do like. But I don't like Merry as a nickname, and it sounds a bit weird with Tilly to me. We're a nicknamey sort of a family, IYSWIM. I chose Matilda knowing I loved Tilly just as much.

Any more suggestions along similar lines?

Jemima is lovely. I would avoid Meredith, whilst it's a lovely name, I.wouldn't want two DDs with the same initial. What about Elizabeth nn Lizzie or Betty, Harriet nn Hattie, or Henrietta nn Hetty?

otisreading · 22/10/2011 15:43

meredith nn eddi eidy edith

nickelbabe · 22/10/2011 15:46

but Tabitha, Meredith, Katherine all have the TH sound.

I do like Jemima
Amelia (Milly)
Tamsin (Tammy)
as suggested already.
Alexandra (Sandy or Alex)
Frances (frankie, Fran or Frannie)
Grace (gracie)

Jemima is lovely, also love Esme (one of my favourites), not keen on the others.

How about Violet, Emmeline or Eliza?

manicinsomniac · 22/10/2011 16:43

I like Jemima and Thea.
Esme is ok
Not keen on Meredith or Tabitha at all.

I love Matilda.
