Victoria is being put on back burner for now (thank you by the way)

But my litto (grandmother) has just died (funeral was on the weekend) and that has thrown our names in the air. Now I would like to use her name in some way for DC.

Except she was spanish and her name : Mercedes.

And I think it may have been corrupted

Help ????

The Mercedes I used to know was known as Mercy.

And the car was named after a girl in the first place. I for one would not assume you'd named her after a car.

I like it.

Beautiful name, but would definitely be best with a Spanish surname.

You could get away with it if you are posh though!

What about calling her Maria Mercedes, in true Spanish style, then shorten to Mercy for general use?

I don't think poshness/chavness has anything to do with it. It's a standard Spanish name - you don't need to be anything to use it imo.

DS would have been Mercedes if a girl. I love it.

I have a South American friend called Mercedes and it suits her, but in my opinion (don't shoot me down for being snobby!) it is incredibly chavvy for a non-hispanic person and reminds me of Chardonnay and Chanel etc...sorry...don't think it's just the UK that is obsessed with class as I live abroad and have many int'l friends and everyone is similar when it comes to names other than that e.g. names American friends would consider upper class are different to ours etc...etc...

Carmen is a beautiful name.
