Wilbur or Caspar???

Hi Ladies

We had a baby boy on Monday (10th) and we've managed to narrow it down to two names...Wilbur or Caspar. I think that I prefer Caspar, DH prefers Wilbur. DH wouldn't be as happy to go with Caspar as I would with Wilbur but it's still in the balance.

Wilbur has abbreviation options, Wil or Burt which Caspar doesn't have. I just have the feeling that if/when I meet someone who's called their newborn DS Caspar I will feel slightly jealous.

WWYD???

I know a baby Wilbur! He's a cutie, but personally prefer Caspar.

By the way, The exclamation mark is because I was shocked they had called him Wilbur, but obviously it's more on trend than I thought.

Our DS2 was going to be Wilbur until the very last minute and would have been a Wilb/Wilby. I think it is a much stronger name than Caspar which sounds a bit floaty to me..

Mrsdp123 - can I be really nosey and ask why you didn't go for Wilbur in the end and what you went with instead??

Congratulations! Both lovely names IMO but Caspar has the edge. Well done Smile

Wilbur! A little Wilby running around, I love it.

Mrsdp123 · 27/10/2011 19:52

In the end I just couldn't decide and so many people seemed to wince at Wilbur that I let my husband have the deciding vote and he went for Digby! (Still gets some winces)...I still whisper Wilby at the baby sometimes to see if it sounds better - bit late now!

duchesse · 27/10/2011 19:55

My 2 yo nephew is Caspar and he is far from floaty!!

sue10 · 27/10/2011 21:01

I love the name Digby but hubby wouldn't agree to it! Our dog use to have a cuddle toy called Digby and his nickname was 'diggers' :-)
XXX.

I love Digby, great choice. Was going to suggest Gaspard as alternative to Caspar....

10isenough · 28/10/2011 02:58

Digby is very original imo! Wilbur is getting slated by older family members but in general everyone else seems to like it (we do live in Brighton though!). I think we might just have to go Wilbur. Main reason being Caspar is short on abbreviations...Cass or Cassie really make me wince.
Thanks for advice everyone!
