Girls' names - short shortlist

What do you think of these girls' names? I would particularly like to know if they are popular or getting popular because my DS has a name in the top 20 and would prefer something more unusual (but not wankily so).

Lydia
Nancy
Celeste

Surname is the same as well known animal behaviourist Dr Roger M......

Any other suggestions welcome.

I like Lydia best.

There are several girls called Nancy round here (despite the slang vocabulary word), and Celeste just makes me think of the ship!

AnaisB · 15/10/2011 09:27

I've discussed them all with DH as potential names for a DD so obvioussly I like them. I'm not sure whether they're becoming more popular, but I doubt any of them are near top 20.

GuillotinedMaryLacey · 15/10/2011 09:42

Lydia was on our list and it's just gone out of the top 100 this year. Not keen on your other two.

nancerama · 15/10/2011 09:46

I'm a Nancy. Wasn't keen as a kid because you could never get tat with my name on it. I love it now because I rarely meet another one, unless I go to the US.

I tried desperately to give DS and unusual but not crazy name and failed miserably - there are 4 others of the same name and the same age as him in a 1/4 mile radius of our house.

You asked for suggestions: other names which have a similar "feel" (to me at least!) include:

Sylvia, Lissa, Mireille, Cheryl, Faye, Celia, Cecily, Felicity, Michelle, Selima, Renata, Nerissa?

Fixture · 15/10/2011 10:10

I like Lydia and Celeste. Not keen on Nancy.

Thanks for the replies.

nancerama I really don't want to make the same error as I did with DS. As much as I love his name (Alexander), they are EVERYWHERE.

Scaevola Thanks for suggestions - I like Celia and Cecily but DH has close family of his generation with those names. Mireille is nice, not keen on the other ones. Funnily enough my mum suggested Nerissa.

I did like Matilda but I think that is getting trendy.

pommedechocolat · 15/10/2011 10:39

Celine, Melissa, Thea

1oredscarf · 15/10/2011 11:41

Lydia by far the best.

LetThereBeRock · 15/10/2011 11:57

Celeste is beautiful. That's my favourite by far.

Then Lydia.

I don't like Nancy.

pushpaw · 15/10/2011 12:31

Phoebe is a good one, I will add it to the list. Also Molly?

I like Lydia the best, not keen on Celeste (reminds me of Daphne and Celeste [cringe]). Quite like Nancy but I think it lacks substance a bit and is may become a name of its time. What about Naomi?

Jawbreaker · 15/10/2011 18:21

Nice names.

My personal favourite is Lydia, but they are all lovely.

Cecile, Cecilia, Cecily?

Romilly?
Otillie?

frutilla · 15/10/2011 18:27

Can't bear Lydia, always reminds me of liver or my mum saying 'i'm livid" which she used to do a lot growing up....that's my phobia though.

Like the other two.

Other names those remind me of

Lysette
Serena
Carina
Anais

oohlaalaa · 17/10/2011 17:48

I like Nancy.

I think Mary, goes nicely with your surname.

dearheart · 17/10/2011 19:41

I love Lydia - and don't know any.
