A rose by any other name?

PullyWoolOver · 04/10/2011 18:24

I'm trying to think of an alternative to Rose for a middle name. It is gorgeous but a few of my friends have recently used it so I'm trying (in vain) to find something else that is equally pretty!

First name will either end in 'ie' or 'a' so a name with a different ending is a must.

All I can think of is May.

Any other suggestions gratefully received!

Ellen?
Frances?
Jane?
Catherine?

IvyAndGold · 04/10/2011 18:38

Well obviously if you were to pick a first name ending in 'ie' then you could have Rosa, which I love but DP wouldn't let me have

Primrose? Still a flower, and with Rose in there.

Matilda Kate! My fave!

Ruby Fleur

Flora Faith

Not so keen on Minnie. It's cute but I can't imagine her at 27 years old and applying for a senior position with the name Minnie.

lollystix · 04/10/2011 23:24

I once knew a marigold. What about dhelia?

Arrogantcat · 05/10/2011 00:07

Minnie? Isn't it an Essex word for vagina? Ruby and Matilda are nice. Ruby Grace? Matilda Jane?

SlinkingOutsideInSocks · 05/10/2011 02:01

OP - clearly you haven't been here for all the Minnie threads...

Please, if you can, do avoid Rose and May - they are both this generation's default middle names, as Louise was to ours.

You can use pretty much any name you want as a middle name, within reason - I don't understand why so many people seem to think that only Rose or May/Mae work as middle names. Confused

If it's single-syllable you want, well, there's loads to choose from. But anyway, why restrict yourself to just one syllable? Also, any family names that you'd like to pass down? Maybe have a look at your family trees for some inspiration.

Thanks again all! There are some really lovely names there that I shall put to DP for his verdict.

Arrogantcat just spat my tea over the computer at your post...perhaps I will rethink Minnie if it means that in Essex!

Slinkingoutsideinsocks will have to satisfy my curiosity about the Minnie threads now as must have missed them
