Girls names. We are having a little girl.

DH is set on Sophie and is already calling her Sophie despite my objections. I think it is far too popular! He likes 'cute names' and all his choices are popular...

Sophie
Evie
Lily

I like less cutesy names and as one of 3 people in primary and secondary school with the same name and always being 'first name Surname' I just don't want that for my DD

I like names such as

Eden
Imogen -yes popular but at least it doesn't end in an 'ee' sound
Lyra
Arya etc etc

Please can I ask for your help in suggesting alternatives for us? Maybe something girly but not the no. 1 name in te country? Lol

The only name we both don't want to veto from each other is Keira. Which was DH suggestion

Middle name will be Caitlin and surname begins with H and is one syllable .

Thank you! desperate to not have a Sophie

I would have had a Megan but my cousin got there first Sad

I think I might let him have Sophie... I'll name the next one, an I did get to pick family middle names Wink

Thank you everyone x I'll keep you updated

I prefer Sophia pretty but not so popular.

BedHog · 02/10/2011 12:35

How about something like Sapphire with nn Saffie? Similar to Sophie but not quite as popular.

Bearcrumble · 02/10/2011 12:42

What about Lila/Lyla (however you want to spell it)? It's somewhere in betweel Lyra and Lily...

TidyDancer · 02/10/2011 12:57

Lila is my next girl's name. :)

I vote for that!

BikeRunSki · 02/10/2011 13:12

Your DH has listed my neighbour's daughters! But they are all late teens/early 20s.

I hang out with lots of 3 yo, and only know one Sophie. I don't think it is that common at all.

4madboys · 02/10/2011 13:27

i know a few sophies including one who is awful...

i love Eden, but my dp didnt like it BUT when we registered dd i gave it to her as a middle name!! she is called Merryn and her middle name is Lola Eden, she is the only girl we will ever have so i figured we should use up the names we liked (dp chose Lola and we both agreed on Merryn :) )

Purplebuns · 02/10/2011 14:02

I know a loads of Sophia/Sofia and it is a nice name, Sophie is better and not as common as you would think.

patindahat · 02/10/2011 19:18

Lena Horn like the jazz singer

manicinsomniac · 02/10/2011 21:01

From your husbands ideas I like Sophie and Lily

From yours I like Eden and Lyra

I also like Keira but not with Caitlyn, the two don't flow.

Sophie Caitlyn and Lyra Caitlyn are both nice.

How about:
Annabelle Caitlyn (Annie? Bella?)
Abigail Caitlyn (Abbie?)
Alexandra Caitlyn (Lexi? Allie?)
Felicity Caitlyn (Flick? Fizzy? Fliss?)
Matilda Caitlyn (Tilly? Tilda?)
Melissa Caitlyn (Lissy?)
Naomi Caitlyn
Savannah Caitlyn
Xanthe Caitlyn

Kayano · 02/10/2011 21:04

Thank you manic. Abigail nn Abbie is a contender Grin

DH is scared she will get Gail but I think we can avoid that Wink

It's Greek for wisdom, if that helps make it more appealing?

What about Sophia? Bit more sophisticated.

Meteorite · 02/10/2011 21:35

All the Abigails I've met have been nicknamed Abi, never Gail.

oohlaalaa · 03/10/2011 17:18

Emilia

LottieBronte · 03/10/2011 18:23

How about Sylvie or Sylvia? Lovely alternative to Sophie/Sophia imo.
