Overheard in the hairdressers....

So I was getting my hair cut the other day, the salon was quiet and the other hairdressers were discussing baby names as one of them is pregnant.
Pregnant one announces that she likes the name Lucy. "You know....short for Lucifer. Only if she was blonde, though".

Oh, I hope she does doesn't have a fair-haired little girl...

Would anyone here be tempted to use Lucifer? Maybe Lucifer and Beelzebub for a set of boy/girl twins...

No but like Lucy. What's the connection with being blonde?

Aren't hairdressers the weirdest? - I've heard so much random nonsense over the years I could write a book

anewmotivatedme · 30/09/2011 11:22

I thought Lucifer was some sort of devil name.

Shock

Tee hee Grin

God forbid you would call your brown haired DD Lucifer!

scaevola · 30/09/2011 12:00

Perhaps the thinking is Lucy, comes from Lux = light. Then crossing it with Jennifer, but somehow ending up with a boy's name that is an appellation of Satan. Not something I'd choose.

NotADudeExactly · 30/09/2011 20:15

Well, the thinking would be right, strictly speaking:

Lucifer = light bearer.

Lux = light

ferre = to bear, to bring

No that this changes anything about the associations, but the idea is basically correct!

Weird!
I always think of Lucy as dark haired not that it woiuld bother me either way.
