Having baby today - boy's name?

I'm having the baby today. We have a Thomas already, and have chosen Anna if it's a girl but I'm not sure of names for boys.

Currently I'm thinking Edward, nickname Ned, but any suggestions or thoughts appreciated!

Ned is sweet. Do you shorten Thomas?

It seems that you like classic names. If you want other suggestions how about: James, Jacob, Joshua, Joseph (not sure why I am concentrating so heavily on the J names, they just seem to fit with Thomas and Anna).

DeSelby · 29/09/2011 12:06

Yes, Thomas is Tom.
Good suggestions, I love Joseph, but its used by a close relative so I'd rather not. James is on my list, I like it but I just dont love it.

I love joseph but as you've said you can't use it which is a shame cos I think it goes really well with Thomas. I have a DS who is Joseph and am currently nearly 30 weeks pregnant with DS2 who we are planning to call Thomas! Anna was our choice if this little one was a girl (you clearly have excellent taste Wink ) We really struggled for a boys name this time round that we both loved. We like classic names and it had to fit with joseph but not be too matchy and themed. It's tricky. How about Daniel?? Samuel?? Ben? So many nice classic names to chose from!

The your choice is between Duncan, Adrian and Gavin isn't it?
Good luck.

Hopintobed · 29/09/2011 12:42

Oh and I really like Edward but prefer Ed/ Eddie as a nickname rather than Ned but that's just my preference. Ned is perfectly nice.

BlueChampagne · 29/09/2011 12:42

Love Daniel too. Adam? David? Alexander?

birdofthenorth · 29/09/2011 12:43

I think Jacob is lovely, Thomas and Jacob sounds lovely together

birdofthenorth · 29/09/2011 12:45

PS good luck! I assume it's a planned c-section and you are not typing mid-contractions?!

pilates · 29/09/2011 13:33

Edward is lovely.

Good luck BTW.

If the baby I currently have in residence happens to be a boy, which it isn't, he'll be Edward (Ned). Gorgeous name.

DeSelby · 29/09/2011 14:48

Thanks, all, I think I needed a bit of reassurance on Edward!

Clearly spoke too soon about having baby today, C section has been bumped!

You've got good taste, hopintobed!

My nephew is called Edward, I wasn't sure at first but I've really grown to like it and I think any of the nn's for Edward are nice so you can't go wrong there. It sounds nice with Thomas too. If you like it go for it!

GobbyCah · 29/09/2011 21:06

Edward is lovely, but Ned is awful. It's the Scottish version of 'chav'.

Ed or Ted better

DeSelby · 30/09/2011 02:47

Update: had baby James today! Thanks for all your help!

Congratulations, why the change of heart?

Love the name James too BTW.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 30/09/2011 11:04

Okay..... Confused

Congratulations and welcome James! :)

DeSelby · 30/09/2011 16:22

He looked like a James (possibly the effect of the drugs!). Thanks all anyway!
