Baby is due in just under 4 weeks and we're still undecided on a boys name. Just wondering what everyone thinks of the name Daniel. The middle name will definitely be Oliver.
Many thanks

I usually go for mire unusual names but Daniel, I absolutely loveSmile

kateg27 · 24/09/2011 22:03

Thanks for the opinions they are much appreciated. Luckily Daniel isn't a popular name around my area. All boys seem to be called Ethan, j/c/hayden or kai! I can't use Oliver as a first name as much as I love it but definitely want it as a middle name.

My oldest is Daniel, mostly because it was dh's favourite name and I didn't have any others I felt so strongly about

I love it now and when he was born an elderly friend of my mother's sent us this lovely verse which we put on his memory box:

Dare to be a Daniel
Dare to stand alone
Dare to have a purpose firm
Dare to make it known

There's also a nice verse in the Bible which goes something like "...and among them all there were none like Daniel..."

My Daniel is the only one in his class and I haven't encountered another one of his age

Thank you! If anyone has any other ideas for 3 syllable first names for boys that will go with the middle name Oliver they will be much appreciated.

Rather plain. But I do like it.

3 syllables... Cameron? Alistair? Barnaby?? Nathaniel?

Madbadsad · 25/09/2011 10:20

Excellent choice!
(although DS2 is Oliver Daniel, so I would think that Grin)
I too know not of any others. Not round these parts...

nethunsreject · 25/09/2011 10:23

I have one and I love it.

Nice shortened too, either to Danny or Dan.

Yep, it's common, but at least you never need to spell it or get asked to repeat it.

themightyskim · 25/09/2011 13:02

It might be safe and boring but your little boy wont get teased for it now will he? I think its a lovely name, our choice for this baby if its a boy is Daniel John (John is my fave relatives middle name so also seriously boring but a special little tribute of my own and that to me means more than exciting other people)

great choice ;)

DigOfTheStump · 25/09/2011 18:14

Adore it. THe only reason I didn't use it second time around is cos I have a Donald and thought together people would think I had a Daneil O'Donnel obsession!

Meteorite · 25/09/2011 18:59

I like it.

exoticfruits · 25/09/2011 19:17

Lovely

My other son is Dominic is that too similar?

OP posts:
mopsyflopsy · 25/09/2011 21:46

Dan and Dom are a little similar, yes.

washngo · 26/09/2011 13:54

Like it, there are 4 daniels and a danny in ds' preschool class but that's pretty luck of the draw so wouldn't worry.

sonniebonnie · 26/09/2011 14:05

I don't like Daniel personally. And I think Dom and Dan is quite similar.

kateg27 · 26/09/2011 16:56

I don't shorten my childrens names so I don't think the dan and Dom thing would be a problem for now! Daniel and dominic maybe? I dunno!

OP posts:
lljkk · 26/09/2011 17:02

Ah, I think Daniel is a bad idea for you then, OP. Because people WILL shorten the name, you've got to get used to that, your DS may even much prefer it. I suggest names like Mark, Kyle, Todd, Kian, Ralph, Liam, Gus if you don't like shortened names.

choccyp1g · 26/09/2011 17:05

Both names are lovely, but DanielOliver runs together a bit "lolly" sounding.

But then, how often do you introduce yourself with middle names, so it doesn't matter that much.

kateg27 · 26/09/2011 19:20

They won't shorten it if I ask them not too. All my children have 3 syllable names and none of them get shortened because I have made it clear since birth that I wanted them called by the name they were given. If my children choose to shorten it when older that is up to them.

kateg27 · 27/09/2011 05:58

No my children haven't finished school, they are 8, 4 and 2 but noones ever shortened their names as they know
my wishes. I never have my name shortened, apart from names on forums. Everyone calls me katherine.

I think they will get called Dan and Dom - which is too similar imo.
