Star or Constellation Names

The girls in my family have all been named after stars, or a foreign version of the meaning of star (e.g. my name is Seren, which is star in Welsh)

But I'm having trouble coming up with boys names that don't sound daft.

So far the only one that seems vaguelly normal is Orion, which i dont like. Any suggestions?

David seems a bit pedestrian - though on the same note, could you try a magi name (from following a star): Caspar, Balthazaar or Melchior?

Of the suggestions on the thread so far, I think Cosmo is by far and away the best.

I was going to say Samson, meaning sun. I also like Neptune...! Maybe as a middle?

EdithWeston · 24/09/2011 17:11

Freddie? (as in Starr ate my hamster)?

SheCutOffTheirTails · 24/09/2011 17:16

Ooh, I also like Neptune.

Nightstar · 24/09/2011 17:44

Yes, I think David is a bit dull, plus it will become Dave wont it, which is hardly going to fit in.

I'm concerned about bullying if I go with a name like Neptune. Samson is definitely safer. I love Caspar, it's definitely on the list!

OP, I love your name. Seren is beautiful.

Nightstar · 26/09/2011 14:22

Thanks Faffalina, I love it too. I always wear Star jewellery, and people always say how pretty it is. So I recommend it to anyone considering!

Sterre (ster RUH) is stars in Dutch its a girls name but wondering if one of your family members has this name? Im really intriged at the names in your family.

Is your DH still ok with Casper Leo?

AlpinePony · 26/09/2011 15:22

The geek in me says you'll attract LRP people. :( Wink

I've seen nearly all of these names sellotaped to the side of a server.

mumzy · 27/09/2011 00:05

Asterix for ds and Asta for dd

ShoutyHamster · 27/09/2011 13:35

Arthur, for the Great Bear. So if your DH ends up baulking at Caspar, could go for Arthur Leo -two nice strong animals!

Nightstar · 28/09/2011 13:14

Greenzebra - never heard that one and no, noone has used it yet, I'll put it on my girls names list!

Yes, he's still happy with Caspar, or maybe Leo for first name instead.

Alpinepony - what are LRP people? I dont understand about the sellotaped to side of server thing?

ASTRAIOS (or Astraeus) was the Titan god of the stars and planets, and the art of astrology. By Eos (the Dawn) he was the father of the seasonal Winds and the Stars. The arrival of these Winds was heralded by the rising of certain constellations. Astraios also had a daughter named Astraia, the goddess of the constellation Virgo.
