sorry reheadbedhead I was trying to think of dogs names and thought of that programme with benji the dog! Ooops sorry if offended anyone.

saffronwblue · 23/09/2011 09:56

I love the name Rufus but it also makes me think Doofus.(sp?)

bohobaby · 23/09/2011 09:57

I think of Rufus Sewell, who I have always fancied.

I like the name, although I think its quite a posh name.

Meteorite · 23/09/2011 10:00

Rufus is an excellent name. I prefer it to Barnaby.

Thumbwitch · 23/09/2011 10:02

I love Rufus but since it really does mean "the red one" then I'd only use it for a redhead or a dog.

Barnaby is lovely. I did know a red setter called Barnaby but that's neither here nor there - it is a boy's name first and foremost.

Hate Gordon - what about Gregor?

bohobaby · 23/09/2011 10:02

What if they have got it wrong and its a girl......

greenzebra · 23/09/2011 10:05

do you have any girls names lined up just in case?

I have heard stories that they can get it wrong.

greenzebra · 23/09/2011 10:06

anewmotivatedme agree with you about Rufus Sewell (coooorrrrrrrr said in a very carry on film way!)

bohobaby · 23/09/2011 10:07

DH like Regina

I like Virginia

Am also keen on Honora

and Penelope

Rufus Barnaby is gorgeous but if there's a chance of him being a redhead (family genes) I would avoid.

Virginia is one of my all-time fav names.

ellesabe · 23/09/2011 10:22

Love it

largeginandtonic · 23/09/2011 10:23

Penelope is fabulous. Prudence too.

I LIKE Rufus Barnaby. Do it.

bohobaby · 23/09/2011 10:25

Are there any other NN instead of Penny for Penelope, that is my only concern, not all that keen or Penny

OP posts:
greenzebra · 23/09/2011 10:48

Nelle could be a nn for Penelope

CurwySwide · 23/09/2011 11:45

Rufus is a fantastic name. Ronnie isn't,and Barnaby is dreadful.

Sidge · 23/09/2011 12:02

My colleague's son is Rufus. Suits him to a tee. Great name.

Also like Tobias, Gregory, Sebastian. Really don't like Gordon or Ronald.

Penelope is OK but 99% of people will assume it's shortened to Penny.

Constance? Prudence?

LetThereBeRock · 23/09/2011 12:06

I love Gordon.

evamummy · 23/09/2011 12:32

I prefer Rupert over Rufus. I also like Gordon, nickname Gordy. Actually Rufus might become Roofy - maybe not so good?

How about Felix, Quentin, Thaddeus - they all have a similar feel imo.

mopsyflopsy · 23/09/2011 13:52

I too know a dog called Rufus, but that doesn't mean people can't use it, does it? Personally I much prefer Rupert or Barnaby. Also like Quentin (we have one, so am slightly biased Smile) and Gregor as mentioned above.

AgathaTrunchbull · 23/09/2011 20:43

Appropriate if he's likely to have red hair...
