DH is at it again, insisting on an 'I' name if DC is a girl (well at least it isn't a Z for a girl)

I really can't stand Isabella (or names like it) so I put my foot down on that one

So

Ida
Iris
Imelda
Ilana
Ivy
Isla
Irene
Isolde
Ilona

?

Isadora
Ianthe
Ishbel
Iona

MerylStrop · 13/09/2011 19:39

I love Iseult/Isolde
DD has Irene (Eye-ree-nie) as a middle name, after DH granny. I think it is gorgeous. It was her first name for a few days but it just din't quite stick.
I like Ishbel too

What is your DH up to - is this totally random or does it have some reason behind it - trying to spell a word with your initials or something daft?

mogandthecat · 13/09/2011 19:47

I love I names - my daughter has one on your list, and Iris was one of our other choices.
Otherwise I really love Ilana from your list (as long as it was always clearly distinguished from Alana!)

Others:

Iona
Ione (I-oh-nie)
Ismene (bad associations though)
Ivana
Ianna (apparently female version of Ian, quite liked this too though maybe a bit weird)
Illyria (straying in to realms of non-names now so will stop!)

upatdawn · 13/09/2011 19:49

Some of my favourites have already been said but I like -

Iona
Isadora
Ishbel
Ianthe
Imogen
India

brodanbell · 13/09/2011 19:50

Imogen...or does that fall into the same category as Isabella for you?

blueberryink · 13/09/2011 19:55

Meryl I decided not to ask when it comes to DH a long time ago - so I have no idea really but I think he is just beingwierd and awkward.

Yep Imogen into same category.
Its the sound/ook of isabella that gets me so Ishbel and Isadore are out.

Love Ines. Do you need an accent i.e. Inès?

LorenSorensen · 13/09/2011 20:28

I loved Ianthe and Iolanthe but DH was mega Hmm so DD is neither.

Catsycat · 13/09/2011 20:39

Irene was my grandma's name, so I like that. Her middle name was Brook, which I think sounds pretty with Irene. I also like Iris and Isolde from your original list. How about Indigo?

What's wrong with Z names btw??? I have two Z DDs, and they are fab names Wink. Ttc #3 now, so presenting more of a challenge when the time comes to think of another Z..... Grin

Catsycat · 14/09/2011 20:17

Well, if you have any good Z boys names, do pass them along in the event that #3 (should I actually manage to conceive #3), turns out to be a boy!
