Can I ask what your opinions are on these names (they all sound fine with surname)?

Clara
Mariska
Larissa
Lalia

I like Clara. The others are too fussy for me. And Lalia is too close to labia.

toomuchpurple · 12/09/2011 23:17

Lorelei - really like it
Clara - The nutcracker and Back to the Future. I'm not sure about it
Mariska - don't like it
Larissa - really like it. You could also have Clarissa
Lalia - I like it actually.

lurkinginthebackground · 12/09/2011 23:56

Lorelei- Hard to pronounce, although once you get it, probably ok. Sounds too much like L'orel (or however you spell it!!!)
Clara - like very much
Mariska - not keen
Larissa - like this know a girl called Larissa.
Lalia - not keen.

blueberryink · 13/09/2011 00:06

Larissa or Clara.
Or as toomuch said have Clarissa then you get both.

Yourefired · 13/09/2011 00:07

Clara is lovely.

MelinaM · 13/09/2011 00:24

Clara is lovelySmile

The others are rather frilly and a tad 'American' in sound.

sqweegiebeckenheim · 13/09/2011 00:41

Love Lorelai, although biased as Gilmore Girls fan.

letspickgoogleberries · 13/09/2011 01:10

Don't like Lalia or Mariska.
Any of the other 3.

Cereal · 13/09/2011 07:36

Clara or Larissa.

CurwySwide · 13/09/2011 09:16

Clara is lovely; don't like any of the others at all - too frilly/fussy, sorry.

comedaygoday · 13/09/2011 10:20

Like Clara. The others are too fussy and frilly for my.taste.

LydiaWickham · 13/09/2011 10:27

Clara. Pretty but works just as well if she ends up being the CFO of a FTSE100 company...

LaTristesse · 13/09/2011 11:15

Lorelei - I'm warming to this a lot recently, may be the hormones though...
Clara - pretty, a bit Sound of Music, but I like it
Mariska - a bit whiskery to me
Larissa - I quite like this, quite unusual without being weird
Lalia - A bit genital for my liking (labia etc)

kat2504 · 13/09/2011 11:16

I love Lorelei (also Gilmore Girls fan!) but much as I love the name I would not actually use it in real life myself. Clara is nice, Larissa sounds ok, I like Marissa too.

ripstheirthroatoutliveupstairs · 13/09/2011 11:16

Clara with the reserve name of Larissa. I know two girls, one is Clara and she is lovley ,the other is Larissa and she is horrible.

Crumbletopping · 13/09/2011 11:47

Clara my favourite by a long way.

sparkle12mar08 · 13/09/2011 11:59

Clara by a mile. The rest are awful to me.

birdofthenorth · 13/09/2011 13:07

Clara or Lorelai. I love Marilla too, might be up your street? Or Marissa.

BlueChampagne · 13/09/2011 15:55

Clara - but second Marissa.

MmeLindor. · 13/09/2011 16:01

Clara

Lorelai comes up a lot on MN baby names and I always say the same - it is the name of a rock in Germany where all the tourists go to oooh and aaaaah. The name of a poem/song/fairy tale about a woman who sits on a rock and lures sailors to their death on the crags.

Anyone in Germany would laugh at the name Lorelai being used. It is like naming a child Rock of Gibraltar.

mathanxiety · 13/09/2011 16:05

I love Clara. I don't like the frilliness of the rest.

Prefer Lara, Mahalia, Marit and Eliska to Lorelei, Lalia and Mariska

pilates · 13/09/2011 16:20

Clara is def the best,

Don't like the rest.

Haberdashery · 13/09/2011 16:36

Clara and Larissa are my favourites. The others sound a bit too frilly/fussy. Lara and Clarissa are also really nice.

TryLikingClarity · 13/09/2011 18:48

I love Clara as it is the name of a dear friend of mine, always had it on my possible list of girls names :)

I have to say that I totally LOVE the name Lorelei, but hadn't realised I loved it till I saw this thread!!! Am off now to write in on my list of possible names for our as-yet-not-conceived DC2. Grin

From what I remember Marilyn Monroe's character in the film Gentlemen Prefer Blondes was called Lorelei.... I might be wrong though...

Teapot13 · 13/09/2011 20:44

Mme Lindor and TryLikingClarity already made my points about Lorelei I see Lorelei Lee in Gentlemen Prefer Blondes as a character whose name I would not want my daughter to share plus I just don't like it.

Larissa - really like this; classic and feminine with a classic nickname (Lara)

Lalia - never heard of it, but I love Leila and it doesn't suggest genitalia.
