DH is stuck on Rudy if DC turns out to be a boy. I need a bit of convincing, I like it, but not sure it's for me. Any thoughts?

OK, used to love but now like

mopsyflopsy · 11/09/2011 21:24

I too associate Rudi (Rudolf) with my German uncle. It is not very popular with the younger generation there at the moment Smile. Perhaps it may be in 20-30 years time? Also way too close to RUDE in English, sorry.

hester · 11/09/2011 21:26

I like it.

tammytoby · 11/09/2011 21:31

Rudy has two problems imo: firstly it has the word RUDE in it, and secondly it is part of the cutey type -y names that will start to date badly as people tire of them (Alfie, Archie, Charlie, Rudy....).

Rudolph if you must, but Rudy no imo.

tammytoby · 11/09/2011 21:32

Rudylicious Grin

meditrina · 11/09/2011 21:36

To me, the first association is ska.

But I think "Rude boy" has a definite meaning (I'm not sure what it it, I don't yet speak teen fluently) - might ge worth checking if it's ok to live with.

(Then again, at the rate teen speak moves on, it might become less of an issue - though might date badly).

thefirstMrsDeVere · 11/09/2011 21:36

Oh give over! Its an utterly fab name.

It has so many possibiities - Rudylicious (as previously mentioned), Rude Bwoy, Rudolpho, Rudy McTudy, Rudilinka to name but a few.

My Rudy is on my profile is you can get past the massive bungalowinthegarden photos.

If you really want to burst a blood vessel his full name is Rudy Asa Billy Cassius Hendrix.

Ner ner ner ner ner

meditrina · 11/09/2011 21:41

Here's wiki on the term - it seems pretty durable: used in the 60s, in the 70s (with ska) and again in the 00s.

My niece who is pretty street (in a nice way) was really shocked that I called my Rudy 'rude boy'.

I explained that it meant something different back in the day. I think its means more a of a player now. When I were a girl it meant a cool dude with an attitude.

dearheart · 11/09/2011 22:23

I know a Rudy - think it's a great name.

Gluttondressedaslamb · 11/09/2011 23:07

Too rude-y IMO
