2 days to go and urgent help needed!

So there are two days to go until my due date and still no name! Every time DH and I start to talk about names it leads to an arguement and now we have very little time left. Our first DS (Dexter) was nameless for two weeks before we settled on a name we both loved. So would people be able to vote for their favourite combination? We have four but we both have a reason against each name Hmm. Would you be able to put some of the doubts out of our mind or are they justified? Sorry for rambling on, here are the names -

Ivan Christopher (parents laughed when we suggested it)
Devlin James (know someone who has this as a surname)
Leon Caleb (someone told us it was chavvy)
Solomon Miles (don't like the nn Sol/Solly but they are inevitable)

What do you think?

i prefer a lot of the middle names to first names, especially christopher. howabout christopher ivan, christopher miles or christopher james? when i saw devlin i first of all read devil, sorry.

fuckityfuckfuckfuck · 04/09/2011 17:42

I misread it as Solomons Mines and I don't think I'd be the only one to make that connection. So don't go with that one.

rachel234 · 04/09/2011 17:42

I love Ivan, Devlin and Solomon - all lovely classic underused names.

MatLeaveForever · 04/09/2011 17:44

I like Leon James, goes well with Dexter I think. Good luck for the imminent birth!

poppydaisy · 04/09/2011 17:47

I like them all apart from Leon. Particularly like Ivan.

muttimalzwei · 04/09/2011 17:51

Ivan is good. What about Spencer?

TheOriginalFAB · 04/09/2011 17:53

Don't tell anyone your choices until you announce the baby is here. People have to accept it then. As for laughing, that is very rude.

Christopher James is nice.

dreamer79 · 04/09/2011 17:59

Yep, they laughed and said that Ivan was 'too foreign'?

I likve Christopher, James and Solomon but Devlin, Leon and Miles are awful I'm afraid.

How about:

Solomon James
Christopher James

Mollydoggerson · 04/09/2011 18:11

I like Devlin James,

I also like saul miles or saul milo.

poppydaisy · 04/09/2011 18:12

Love Ivan and Devlin. I'm not keen on Miles (plural of Mile).

pinkgirlythoughts · 04/09/2011 18:18

I used to teach on supply in a school where there was a boy named Devlin, and he was regularly referred to in the staffroom as 'devil.' I think if a Devlin is at all badly behaved at school, that nickname is inevitable, sorry.

Leon Caleb somehow doesn't flow quite right, although they're both nice names on their own. How about Leon Christopher instead?

As far as your other son's name goes, I think Dexter and Leon or Dexter and Solomon sound best together.

autumngirl231 · 04/09/2011 18:33

Ivan Christopher (parents laughed when we suggested it) - Ivan is a great name, don't listen to your parents it's not their decision!
Devlin James (know someone who has this as a surname) - Another great name. Devlin is also a name in it's own right so don't worry about knowing people with the surname Devlin.
Leon Caleb (someone told us it was chavvy) - LOVE LOVE LOVE Leon and it is not at all chavvy!
Solomon Miles (don't like the nn Sol/Solly but they are inevitable) - Personally I don't like this and, if you dislike Sol Solly, I wouldn't recommend it as the nns are inevitable.

Out of your list I would go for Leon Caleb - good luck!

sjuperwolef · 04/09/2011 18:52

christopher and leon are my favourites from your whole list.

MsChanandlerBong · 04/09/2011 19:15

Ivan Christopher is my favourite... closely followed by Devlin James.

HTH and good luck Smile

PercyFilth · 04/09/2011 19:55

Ivan Christopher is a clear favourite with me (although I do like Miles and there is nothing wrong with James).

Leon Caleb? Kings of Leon Hmm Are you serious?

Ivan and Leon are both great names!

ShoutyHamster · 04/09/2011 20:53

How about Christopher and call him Kit for short?

Ivan and Leon both good. Devlin I don't like, sorry.

Don't have Solomon if you don't like the nicknames!

Christopher James, Christopher Ivan or Christopher Leon would be my choice. Christopher is very underused!

dreamer79 · 04/09/2011 20:55

Sorry, probably should have made it clearer at the start, the names aren't up for change now

OP posts:
Saggyoldclothcatpuss · 04/09/2011 21:06

Wait till you see him! He could be someone completely different from any of your selected names when you actually see him.

dreamer79 · 05/09/2011 09:04

Do babies actually look like a certain name?

OP posts:
LaWeasel · 05/09/2011 09:14

Well, no, not really. They look like babies. I'm hoping looking down at a tiny newborn baby DS will convince DH that all our relatives will take the piss if we name him Hunter though.

I like Solomon best I think.

dreamer79 · 05/09/2011 11:12

The list has now been cut back to just two! Could people vote out of there two for their favourite - we love them both and will probably go with majority (although that's probably subject to change when our little man arrives :o) So the final two names are -

Ivan Christopher
Leon Devlin

They have changed around a bit as Caleb didn't quite make the final cut!
