dd2 3weeks old and no name help!!!

simply can't agree with OH. This is dd2, dd1 is sophie. (had no idea it was so popular - but still love it and it suits her perfectly). I feel OH should have more say as he didn't get much of a look in last time. Kathryn will be the middle name (family member) surname starts with L so lots of L names are out.
our short list is
Jessica (love Jess or Jessi), Francesca (both more his pref than mine) Anna (my pref). There's lots of others we like but don't agree on, and some maybes are Alexandra, Nina, Jo (not sure if nn for Josephine or Joanna).
We think she'll have strong features and personality wise up until today I would have said she seems quite an easy going happy soul, quite a twinkle in her eye. would like something kind of cool but not pretentious.
help!

I agree with the Francesca issue...love the name but would hate Fran/Fanny. I like Frankie though and the name has enough nn options that your grown up francesca can choose what to call herself. If you correct people when they call her Fanny etc then hopefully they will listen!
Girls names I like are Annabelle, Lucia (pron Loo-see-a not Loo-chee-a), Olivia, Harriet, Georgia, Josephine, Phoebe, Neva, Kitty (no good with Kathryn though!), Arriella....

I like Jessica but I am guessing that has been ruled out now.

I agree that Francesca can be problematic. If there is any chance of a big boobs or early development then 'Chest' nicknames come into play (IME) and I guess that may also be a problem (something along the 'Flat-Chest-ca' lines) if she is a late developer too.

Love the name Hazel (will be a MN for ours if a girl), so just to throw another in the mix.. what about Juliet?

I went to college with a Marnie, and she was also just a Marnie. I have always thought of it as a name in its own right and it is really very lovely. I also like Jess & Anna. Joanna is pretty too but Jo seems too plain to me and half the class were Joanne or Joanna when I was at school so that kind of puts me off, though for that reason I would think if you call her Joanna she will be the only one in her class. I vote for Marnie or Iris (DS would have been Iris had he not been a DS) not that either were on your original list .

"Don't worry about names being popular- it won't bother them if it doesn't bother you" have to disagree on that one. Both me and my sister had the most popular names for the years we were born. Its never bothered my mum but then she doesn't work with 4 others and have to deal with the constant confusion.

As others have said Jessica and Anna are both lovely but very popular. Francesca is lovely but was common a few years ago.

The only Josephine I know everyone loves and is kind and has a great sense of humour so my vote is with that.

Nina is a fabulous name. I think the others you have suggested are all a bit bland and/or dated.
