Eli - what can it be short for?

We really like Eli for a little boy, and want to know what it could be short for, other than Elijah?

DH is a teacher and has had two Elijah's in his class which were little sh*ts and so Elijah has bad connotations for him Grin

Eli is a name in itself so can't you just call him Eli? I suppose it could be short for Elisha? I like Eli.

Elias???

Eliot?

nokissymum · 26/08/2011 15:52

Eli is a name in itself, its jewish.

acsec · 26/08/2011 15:53

I like Eli just as a name on it's own :)

apples82 · 26/08/2011 15:54

I thought it could be a name by itself, good news Smile

Do you think it matters that it's very similar to my own name? I know sons often get named after their fathers, but it's similar to mine- does that matter?

Eli is a name in its own right, or if you want it to be short for something, there's Elisha.

nokissymum · 26/08/2011 15:57

We've done a thread this week about fathers and sons having the same names Grin but i dont think there's anything wrong with just "similar" names, think its quite nice actually.

Eliezer?

WottingerAndWottingerAreDead · 28/08/2011 16:35

If similar to yours then are you an Ellie? If so, no problem at all as although they look similar written down pronounced they sound very different (can't work out what female name sounds like Eli!).
