DH has suggested this, it's not what I would have picked but I think it's growing on me.

I'm worried it sounds a bit long and fussy.

Wondering what other peoples thoughts/opinions are on it.

Nice '90s song by Matthew Sweet (anyone remember him?!).

Does sound religious, though...

My dd is called Evangeline. I have now steered people away from abbreviating it to Evie. While Evie is a nice name, it is not the name I chose and I cannot see the point in choosing a name I love and then calling my child something entirely different. I think if you tell people from the start what you want your dd to be called, they will likely follow your lead and call her by the full name.

We chose Clair as a middle name, after my sister. I also liked Iris and Cara as middle names.

picnicbasketcase · 26/08/2011 22:07

I think it's lovely but was talked out of using it because I was told by more than one person that 'it looks too much like 'vagina'.' Hmm

AngelDelightIsIndeedDelightful · 26/08/2011 22:11

I think it's beautiful. You will need to be comfortable with it being shortened though. Both my girls are regularly shortened by others (whether I wish it or no!)

There's the ever popular Grace as the middle name, or Rose. How about Ann/e?

musttidyupmusttidyup · 26/08/2011 22:18

pretty pretty pretty.

imip · 07/09/2011 06:30

Ahhh, Matthew Sweet inspired my name choice of Evangeline!!! Tried to show DH the song via youtube - Matthew Sweet put on TONNES of weight (not that I could talk!) and he was doing a really rock version of the song. Didn't sell it that well to DH. I prefer to remember Matthew Sweet how he used to be....

I know an Evangaline Grace (Evie)..love it! Love Evangaline Florence too! People never use both names together so doesn't matter that they are both long.

Catsycat · 07/09/2011 11:42

It's a lovely name. I have 2 DDs and tried to choose names for them that would still be lovely when they are women, and not cute little girls any more - I think this is that kind of name.

I'm a fairly strident atheist, and didn't really think of the evangelical angle at all until it was mentioned here. (Or the similarity to vagina!!!!) So neither of those things would put me off using the name.

pilates · 08/09/2011 11:36

I love it, how about:-

Evangeline Lily
Evangeline Jane
Evangeline Frances
Evangeline Violet

boodleboot · 08/09/2011 20:30

i love this name. lots. on my list should bump be pink. i would have Evangeline Katy and then call her JellyKat!

MissHonkover · 09/09/2011 10:19

I don't have a problem with the length of it, but wouldn't like it to be shortened as Eve/Evie is so popular.

Does make me think 'vag' though, sorry!

Bue · 09/09/2011 17:00

"It sounds like a heroine from a children's book."

Actually the original Evangeline is a heroine from an epic poem by Longfellow about the expulsion of the Acadians from eastern Canada. It's a very romantic, tragic tale. Longfellow actually made up the name.

MrsOzz · 09/09/2011 18:27

Love it! Live Eve, Eva, Evie too even if they are popular.

EmpressOfTheSevenOceans · 09/09/2011 18:31

NN Angie to be slightly unusual nowadays but still fairly normal?

I know an Evangeline who uses Vange but not so keen on that.

Chynah · 10/09/2011 21:50

DDs middle name is Evangeline it would have been a definite first name choice for us except for it clashing with my own 'Eve' variant name. I love it. Her first name is actually of equal length and it flows very nicey.

woowa · 10/09/2011 22:07

My dd has a 4 syllable first name, 3 syllable mn and 4 syllable, double barrelled surname. I really think you can have as many as you like, her name is completely delicious said all together, and excellent when telling her off!! She'll learn to spell eventually!

CultureMix · 11/09/2011 02:47

My BIL has just given his newborn daughter Evangeline as a middle name, with a shorter first name. Wasn't expecting it (family tend to go for super classic names) but quite like it. It's also a good name to grow into as an adult.

Must say I've not yet run into a little Evie or Eva yet despite hearing they're very popular.

Katiekatiekatekate · 12/09/2011 13:42

I would shorten it to Angel...
