is 3 names to many ???

hi, just wanted your thought i have chosen the name finlay jon alexander, finlay and alexander are no brainers to me as they are my fave but we thought sticking jon in there was a nice gesture after my dad. but i am concerned that he will have the longest name !!!! has any one any thoughts on this or do you think its sounds ok?

DS has 3 names. His full name was longer than he was when he was born. He's grown in to it now though!

Me, my sister, my uncles, my DS, my DD bump - all have three names.
No problem, just need to write small on forms.

All my 3 DCs have 3 first names with family names a major theme!

Same here ds1 and 2 both have three names, I'm a bit worried dd will feel left out as she only has two .

I prefer just two names but it's your choice of course. Three names is not too unusual.

Personally I don't like Finlay so I'd pick Alexander Jon or Jon Alexander :)

I like Finlay and Alexander, but is Jon a name in its own right? Isn't is short for Jonathan? Why not John?

My DS has 3 names. His own, then two family names, one of which didn't make the final cut as it would have given him unfortunate initials. Which for some reason my DH likes to tell everyone.

My ds has 3 names. His first name and 2 family names, both grandads.

its fine I have three names as does my brother, and my first born. Ive kind of carried it on as a family tradition.

Three names is quite normal. Finlay Jon Alexander is a great name but I would spell Jon as John.

Both DDs, DH, my Mum, my Siblings & I all have 3 first names. DH & I double-barrelled our surnames too so our little family all have 5 names!! No problems for any of us. Why restrict yourself - there are no rules!

My two have 3 names, one middle name from each side of the family.

Both my dss have 4 names, I love them and they work together, they each have a name for themselves, one after my family, one after dh's, ie a family name.

DS has 3 first names, and his last name is also a commonly used first name - 8 syllables altogether. Though when he does tell people his name, it is mostly commented what a long handle he's got. Doesn't worry me in the slightest, it's his name

My last christian name has the same initial as my surname. Officialdom often assume that I made some kind of mistake and leave it out.

btw I got a name from each parent and one from older brother

My baby DD has 3 names . I always wished I'd had 3 names myself (I've got 2) & always wanted to give my DC 3 names. DH, however, is from a family where everyone only gets the 1 name "because you only use 1" & insists that 2 names is therefore "more than enough". Before having the DCs we ended up making the compromise that any boys we had would get 2 names & any girls would get 3 names. 14 years & two DS's later, I have finally had a DD & been able to give her 3 names. Yay!

Both DD were given short names so that they learned them easily. The middle names were longer. Once a teacher always a teacher :)

Everyone in my family has 3 names - DH, DS's and myself, as well as my DB,DSis, mum and dad. Go for it!

Everyone in my family has 4 names. DH wanted our DC to have two. We settled for three. Why should that be a problem? Go for it.

Three names is not unheard of - but it usually means posh. Most people have two.

I have 2 middle names and dislike it (although I do still use all my names as it is my name iyswim). My husband has no middle name. Our children have 1 middle name (i.e. - 2 names).

thanks everyone, i am surprised at how many people have 3 names! We liked Jon just because it sounds a bit more modern.

Do you think many people give their children there grandparents names ?
