Pretty and not that widely used - I like it. Works well in most other languages too.

Darnsarfupnorf · 19/08/2011 22:15

Pretty but too close to diarrhoea for oportunistic class mates :p

RhinestoneCowgirl · 19/08/2011 22:17

Makes me think of an 8 yr old Daria in our street, she's Polish I think...

GlaikitFizzog · 19/08/2011 22:17

I like it. There was a doc on ER called Daria. Pronounced to rhyme with aria rather than Maria

coccyx · 19/08/2011 22:19

I liked it until i read the diarrhoea reference

mopsyflopsy · 19/08/2011 22:19

But most names, in fact almost all, can be teased by imaginative class mates e.g. William = Willy, Ellie = Smellie Ellie etc. I wouldn't worry too much about that, personally.

Also isn't the emphasis with Daria on the first syllable (unlike Diorrh-EEA, on the last)?

deemented · 19/08/2011 22:21

I had to think about that then, Darnsarfupnorf Blush

Do you think it'd work with a D surname?

TillyIpswitch · 19/08/2011 22:23

Straight away think of Daria which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

suzikettles · 19/08/2011 22:24

Daria is what I think of.

It's not so bad a namesake though. I liked her.

suzikettles · 19/08/2011 22:25

lol xpost!

Rhubarbgarden · 19/08/2011 23:25

Rather nice.

duckdodgers · 19/08/2011 23:26

Lovely

Ephiny · 20/08/2011 10:15

I like it, really nice name. Not sure about with a D surname, alliterative names can sound a bit funny sometimes, depends what it is though.

AberdeenAngusina · 20/08/2011 10:26

I know a Polish Daria, she's lovely. It's a good name because it's both unusual and easy to pronounce / spell.

deemented · 20/08/2011 16:01

Ooohh... lots of positives! That's rare on MN Smile

Now i just need to find a lovely Welsh middle name to go with!

"Pretty but too close to diarrhoea for oportunistic class mates :p"

That was my first thought too Blush

GlaikitFizzog · 21/08/2011 19:09

Do you think poopy when you see Poppy??? I really don't see(or hear) diarrhoea in Daria!

mopsyflopsy · 21/08/2011 19:57

And what about Willy when you see Will ???

Lilyloo · 21/08/2011 20:03

Was that the name of the little girl in finding Nemo ?

umf · 21/08/2011 20:53

I had a Romanian friend called Daria, think it's lovely. It's a bit stronger than all these Eva, Ava, Mia names that are around at the moment.

MamaLazarou · 22/08/2011 12:48

Diarrhoea here, too, I am afraid.

"Do you think poopy when you see Poppy???"

No - I think 'Ploppy'.

Summerbird73 · 22/08/2011 12:50

oo i remember the cartoon too - as i recall she was rather cool

yep do it!

Mondayschild78 · 23/08/2011 12:09

I like it and am considering it for DC1 too if she is a girl, although haven't yet discussed it with DH!! Grin

Loved the cartoon btw

deemented · 23/08/2011 13:18

I think we're sold on Daria as a girls name.

Haven't got a clue if it's a boy...
