OK, I am due with DC2 in just over 4 weeks. We have a girl's name sorted which we both love, but are not in full agreement on a boys name...please and tell me which one you like best - or if you have any to suggest.
THANK YOU!

Dexter (never seen the tv show everyone goes on about so doesn't matter to me)
Victor (we like the nickname 'Vic')
Holden (DH likes JD Salinger)

Our last name is 3 syllables beginning with S. Middle name is set and is very biblical.

I'm not really a big fan of any of them. But Dexter is the best. Victor just reminds me of old men and old films. Holden to me is a surname but that be because I'm related to lots.
They are different so I can't really think of ones that are like it. Try nymbler it'll do it for you. Sorry

Don't like Holden - just sounds like a random word to me.
Dexter - awful
Victor - not too keen there either, don't know why
Sorry

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2011 13:08

Victor's the best out of that lot. Dexter is too trendy and as for Holden... why would you want to name your child after such an annoying character? If your husband loves JD Salinger so much, then how about Jerome?

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2011 13:08

Sorry - that post came out a bit aggro!

Danthe4th · 19/08/2011 13:16

I like dexter but it does remind me of cows and tractors, Victor is ok but I do know a couple of old vics and I'm not keen on Holden it just doesn't sound like a name, I can imagine children at school shouting 'hold on' at him.

wearenotamused · 19/08/2011 13:25

Right I've had a think

JD Salinger (Mamalazarou idea)

David
Maurice
Seymour

(top of my head - without looking I can't think of more)

Gwythyr - is victor in welsh but that is very welshy.

Dexter is still stumbing me

MamaLazarou · 19/08/2011 13:27

Don't be so silly... Gwythyr, indeed...

EdithWeston · 19/08/2011 13:32

I like Victor, and Dexter is OK.

keepoffthegrass · 19/08/2011 15:17

OK, thanks for comments.

I don't see Dexter as trendy - have liked it for years as had a crush on Dexter Fletcher when I was younger. Smile
Holden is DH's suggestion, which I said I'd think about - although I do agree that it is a bit like 'hold on'. He also suggested 'Hector' which I don't like at all.
It is so difficult choosing a boy's name! I just want something everyone can spell and doesn't sound made up. Went through the entire top 100 last night, and there is so little I like.
Hopefully we'll get a girl.....

I've got a Viktor. He is a real character and suits his name. His nickname is 'Little V' , or sometimes just V. Smile

"Went through the entire top 100 last night, and there is so little I like"

There are lots and lots (over 8,000 I think) names outside the top 100 names, you know. Lots of lovely, classic underused names. That's where we found both dd and ds's names.

CaptainNancy · 19/08/2011 19:56

Duncan
Fletcher
Leon
Oscar

Bandwithering · 19/08/2011 21:38

I love victor.

Dexter is ............. a serial killer. I'm sorry, can't get past that. Holden is ok but Holden was such a cynic, I really wouldn't want to name a child after such a 'jaded' personality.

Bandwithering · 19/08/2011 21:39

Yeah my son's name is at about 300 I think but it has a normal vibe not an omg can you repeat that? vibe. iykwim.

Bandwithering · 19/08/2011 21:42

ps, what about Howard? same vintage as Victor but has an H like HOlden and a D in it too like Dexter Grin Confused

ukulelelady · 01/03/2012 00:45

Know this post is history but what did you go for keepoffthegrass? Just asking cos my OH's name is one of your choices which he is insisting will be our dc's name- no idea if it's boy or girl! And weirdly his other choice is your other choice. Coincidence, non?

Bubbaluv · 01/03/2012 01:00

Holden is a mid-range car company in Australia, so would be like calling your child Vauxhall.
Dexter makes me think of Bust a Move by Young MC.
Victor is pretty good though. Strong and masculine with a good NN option.

Urgh - sorry - just realised this was a rehashed thread.
