What do you think about the name Ammar?

Am thinking of an Arabic name for a boy that is easy for English speakers to pronounce. I want to steer clear from all the usual run of the mill names but I don't want to have to spell it out all the time (it's bad enough with our surname). So wondering how non-Arabic speakers would think it was pronounced and whether you like it?

Nice name, and easy to pronounce. I wouldn't have been sure of the spelling, over the years I have met an Amir, Amar, Amer and Amr, but I don't think I've met an Ammar. TBH of the ones I've met the most surprising spelling was the Amr one, I was expecting more than 3 letters and another vowel at least.

Lots of people routinely ask how names are spelt, so you may not be able to avoid that anyway, especially these days when there are lots of variations on the same/similar names e.g. I can think of a few spellings of Kelsey, Kelseigh, Kelcie, and there are probably more.

I find good associations with names make all the difference (ie meeting someone with the name who you like) :-) I know what you mean about Amr, that is a tricky one especially with only three letters and no more vowels as you say. They are all different names the ones that you mentioned, not variations on the same theme. I have a feeling people will keep mixing it up with Amir because that's the most common one, but as you say most names have to be spelled out anyway..which is why I went for Adam for my first!

I think people will think of Amir too, but Ammar is quite easy to say and quite easy to spell when you know how. It'd just mean you'd spell it a few times.

I like it, I would have automatically spelt it Amar I think.

I know an Ammar! (not that makes any difference - I was at his wedding last week) It's a nice name - I wouldn't worry about people spelling it wrong, they'd probably do Amar and you'd just have to say 'Two M's' It's not like you are spelling it with a silent K or something.
