1 syllable girls names/nicknames

ok, we just found out we're having a girl. DH is a bit crazy and basically wants a one syllable name or nickname, preferably no more than 3 letters. I've explained and given examples that this is very rare with girls names! (Ann, Bea, Sam are about the best I can think of.) so, mumsnet, give it your best shot. Ugly ones allowed, so I can prove to him the folly of his thinking. FWIW, the name I am favouring has only four letters but is two syllables.

But the thing is, all names end up with a one syllable nickname as it is the smallest you can make it I think? So my Chloe gets called Clo by her friends, Matilda becomes Tillie and I've noticed her friends call her Tils. Isaac has become Zac, Jacob, Jake.

I'm a Sara and get Sah, or just S.

Kay, Fay and May. Actually, these are all really pretty. In fact most one syllable names are pretty. Also Sam and Bea are shortened forms of long names.

Why does he only want a one syllable name? Does he not want it shortened?

How about AARGH then?!

Well, DD is called Amber, but she is generally known to her friends as Bam (Evolution path: Amber/Ambi/Bambi/Bam) so that might fit your DH's requirements... Also her friend is Hat, short for Hattie short for Harriet!

Meg is actually quite sweet, though quite similar to my two-syllable name that my DH can't deign himself to call me by (hmm, yet honey has two syllables too.)

The name I'm favouring is Lucy. I like the nickname LuLu and DH can call her plain old Lu/Lou if he's got a blinking problem with that!

Meg is a lovely name. Nell is another that is short & sweet.
Really like Lucy I have to say!

I'm very firmly of the oppinion that the parent that does the pregnancy and birth gets the deciding vote in the naming.

Lucy is lovely. LuLu's Ok and a simple, monosyllabic Lou (of any spelling except double o) is also acceptable. He should be grateful you put up with him at all, Honey indeed, pfffft.

Saffron - totally agree! It irks me generally that he wants a simple name not so much for aesthetics but out of sheer laziness!

most names can be shortened to 1 syllable really i think or you could shorten to the first letter, doesnt work with all letters admittedly but my friends have a habbit of this so dani becomes D, jess becomes J etc
