Hello - I am finding it very very difficult to decide on a name. Think it might be because I'm a teacher and names keep conjuring up images of past pupils. (Good and bad!!!) These are our favourites so far but none of them feel 'right'. Do you have any other ideas that are similar?!?

Isaac
Jude
Noah
Jonathan

Thank you in advance!!!!

Jacob
Jonah
Oscar
Nathan

5inthebed · 01/08/2011 20:10

I like all four. In order or likeness:

Isaac
Jonathan
Jude
Noah

MrsLukeDanes · 01/08/2011 20:14

I do like Isaac but I know that I would shorten it to Zac from day 1, so really should it be Zachary (sp?) which I don't like as much as Isaac?!? Does that matter? I think you can really overthink this! And Nathan is good, but again, would that have to be Nathaniel?

Samuel
James
David
Matthew
Joshua
Daniel
Saul
Aaron
Benjamin
Luke

Isaac can definitely have the nn Zac. In fact I know more Zacs who are Isaacs anyway!
Nathan is a standalone name so go for it if you like it. I love the nn Nate.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2011 20:39

Jem
Hector
Christopher/Kit
Luke

Phoenix · 01/08/2011 20:42

If you like Isaac I would go for it with the nickname Zac :)

I've got a Noah so love that :o

MrsLukeDanes · 01/08/2011 20:47

Thanks for the responses all. Maybe I'm too hung up on the Isaac/Zac thing!
I've never heard of Jem before - is that a shortened version of something else?

It's a character in 'To Kill A Mocking Bird' but I suppose it's also a nn for Jeremy.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 01/08/2011 20:49

It could work as a nn for James too and James is a lovely name!

I love your list as it is!
Brings to mind these others for me:

Jacob
Caleb
Henry
Jonas
Elliot
Ira
Earl
Joseph

InstantAtom · 02/08/2011 09:54

Jem could be short for Jeremiah or Jerome as well as Jeremy.

FriskyMare · 02/08/2011 10:01

When I saw your list I thought of Jonah, don't know any of that name but quite a few Zak/Zachs, Noahs and Josh/jacobs etc. Quite like Jude from your list too.

wombatinwaiting · 02/08/2011 11:06

What do you think of Jeremy? We love Jem but not sure on Jeremy.

Also, Jasper? Would people always think of Jasper Carrot?

shorty100 · 02/08/2011 11:18

What about ruben? Can be spelt a few ways. I love the name jacob too.

Suncottage · 02/08/2011 11:21

Nathan is a different name from Nathaniel - it is actually a shortened form of Jonathan.

MrsLukeDanes · 02/08/2011 20:10

wombatinwaiting I like Jem too, but am not sure what 'long' name I'd put it with as I'm not sure on Jeremy either.
suncottage I didn't realise that about Nathan - thank you! I like it as it is, rather than Nathaniel I think.
Everyone else - thanks for the other ideas and suggestions - I'll keep thinking... Grin

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 02/08/2011 20:17

My new son is call Sebastian, we went through loads of boys names as we couldn't agree!
I quite liked Nathaniel and Nicholas but DH didn't.

LemonDifficult · 02/08/2011 20:18

Jeremy is a bit of a wet Tory MP name though.

How about Joel?

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2011 20:22

Does nobody think Jem could stand alone?

More:

Simeon
Thaddeus
Bartholomew
Benedict
Timothy/Tim

ShirleyKnot · 02/08/2011 20:29

ooo. I like all your names and most of those suggested!

LOVE Thaddeus, Rueben and Nathan and Isaac. (Not necessarily nicknamed Zac - can also be Isa. Actually, I like Isa as well. and I like Asa)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 02/08/2011 20:30

I like Asher too.

MrsLukeDanes · 03/08/2011 14:55

I think that Jem could stand alone but I prefer a longer version to choose from. I've just found that there is a Jemuel in the Bible if that helps anyone else?!? (disclaimer - don't know more than that about the meaning etc!)
