Due in a few months with twins (:O) (a boy and a girl) and DH and I have managed to narrow it down to a shortlist.

Oh and ..... I'm Irish/Welsh and DH from London and We have a v.jewish surname - Cohen (DH is Jewish) and two older DC, Layla Jenny and Aodhán Seth.

So what do you think:

Girl

Caitríona
Orla
Cassie (not Cassandra)
Susanna
Mallaidh
Niamh
Esther
Miri

Boy

Nate (not Nathaniel)
Iestyn
Logan
Eoín
Noah
Jacob
Elijah
Ezekiel

I love Eoin as a name also like Elijah of your girls name I think Susanna or Mallaidh works well with what you have (but oh I love Miri)

thecatisdead1 · 28/07/2011 01:26

I like Mallaidh and Miri. I would say Cassie but with your surname.....
as for boys names Ezekiel and Nate.

Logan, Eoin, Noah with Cohen? no, two many o's

madhattershouse · 28/07/2011 01:28

Orla and Eoin sound great together but different initials, which makes things easier in the long run.

pilates · 28/07/2011 08:11

Absolutely love Orla, it's so pretty and Jacob for a boy.

EightiesChick · 28/07/2011 08:16

Susannah - next faves Orla, Esther or Miri

Iestyn, then Jacob

Bandwithering · 28/07/2011 08:38

you've lots of nice girls' names there.

Susannah and Jacob go well together. They are both equally solid, equally familiar. Susie and Jake go well too.

Noah is a bit of a soft sound to put with a girls name as strong as Esther, Miri(am) or Susannah though. And Noah and Orla is too O-ish. I do like Orla though, but not with any of the boys names you have listed there. Orla and Jacob would be about the best match I think. Orla and Nate works ok but it has no oooh about it. There needs to be another consonant in there I think!

What about Saul?

Either Miriam (Miri) and Saul, or Esther and Saul together would be lovely sib set. they 'go' without being too matchy. But yet they are both bible names and neither is too popular or too obscure.

Ezekiel is nice but it's a bit too unusual beside your girls names i think, Zeke for short is cute though.

What about Zachary (with Esther/Miriam/Susannah) and letting the nn Zeke 'evolve' instead of zack.

Cassandra is horrible. Logan is terrible. Elijah is alright but, like Noah, it's a very feminine sounding collection of letters to give a boy who is the twin of a girl with a very strong-sounding name.

Bandwithering · 28/07/2011 08:41

ps, Niamh and Eoin would work ok together, but that combo doesn't set me alight.

5inthebed · 28/07/2011 08:46

Caitríona is lovely and I like both Jacob and Elijah from your boys list.

hester · 28/07/2011 08:46

From your list, I like Esther, Orla and Susannah for a girl, Noah and Jacob for a boy.

And how about: Sadie, Roisin, Anna, Saoirse, Rachel, Talia, Daniel, Morgan?

randomimposter · 28/07/2011 09:43

with your surname I would go Susanna and Jacob (as has already been said)

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 28/07/2011 09:44

Love Niamh and Jacob

ThePrincessRoyalFiggyrolls · 28/07/2011 09:46

Like Orla and Logan too Blush

Actually think you have some very lovely names in the running Grin

pinkgirlythoughts · 28/07/2011 09:50

With your surname, I'd consider:

Orla
Susanna
Mallaidh
Niamh
Esther
Miri

Nate
Jacob
Elijah
Ezekiel

None of the others really 'go' with your surname, IMO, either being too matchy (Cassie Cohen) or too rhymey (Noah Cohen).

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/07/2011 09:52

Goodness, I think for the first time in my MN life there is a list of names where I like all of them!

Cassie Cohen does have a ring to it though... Cassandra was one of my considerations but everyone said Only Fools and Horses :( I like alliterative names though.

Wouldn't use Noah with Cohen, doesn't run well. Same for Eoín and Logan unfortunately.

I have to say I do quite like the Jewish/Irish contrast that you would get with Niamh Cohen or Eoín Cohen. Very difficult, you've got some lovely names there.

GwendolineMaryLacey · 28/07/2011 09:53

I realise you're not using Cassandra btw :)

BikeRunSki · 28/07/2011 09:59

Orla and Nate!

Iamkenny · 28/07/2011 14:24

Sadie, Saoirse, Talia and Morgan I really don't like
Daniel and Rachel are alright but maybe to 'normal' with other two DC names?
Roisin was on shortlist for DD - think we got rid of because nn didn't really fit with surname (we are big on shorterning naames)
Anna is my mam's name - so no

As for Saul, DH likes it but whenever I hear it I can only think of the road to Damascus and Paul - so that it out

MrsOzz · 28/07/2011 14:33

I vote Jacob and Niamh!!

I do like Caoimhe Cohen though. Maybe:
Jacob and Caoimhe
Killian and Caoimhe
Nate and Caiomhe

InstantAtom · 28/07/2011 14:41

I like Esther for a girl, Jacob, Elijah or Ezekiel for a boy.

Also like Nate and Cassie but only as nicknames for something longer.

hester · 28/07/2011 14:41

I didn't do so good then, did I? Grin

ilovesprouts · 28/07/2011 16:20

niamh &noah

PebblesAndWine · 28/07/2011 20:26

Orla and Jacob!

TheMonster · 28/07/2011 20:30

Girl.
I don't like Miri or Mallaidh or Cassie. Orla remind me of an awful woman on Big Brother a few years back.
Caitriona is nice and would sound nice with your surname.
Susanna is classic is probably my fave in your girls' list.
Niamh is ok and Esther is nice.

Boy

I don't like Nate, Noah, Elijah or Ezekiel.
Iestyn is good - it's unusal.
Logan is ok.
My fave is Jacob. It's my DS's middle name.

So, all in all, Susanna and Jacob from me.
