Ok, we're having our first dc and its a boy! I have quite an unusual name- never new another until I was an adult and I really enjoyed that, so want something a bit unusual, but also traditional. Nothing too modern. DH are in agreement on three, but I'm throwing a few others in the mix for fun. All to go with Thomas as a middle name, as we want to use the name of dh's late grandad.

Names we both like:
Isaac
Noah
Seth

Names I like, which DH might come around too:
Logan
Sebastian (DH is very worried it would get nn basty)

Names I like that DH hates:
Griffin (I'm just sticking this in for fun to see what you all think)

Any views these names? Or perhaps any other suggestions along similar lines?

I like Isaac best. Really don't like Logan or Griffin.

PaperBank · 22/07/2011 11:28

Isaac - like
Noah - a bit of a fashion name just now
Seth - like
Logan - don't like
Sebastian - like, with Seb as nickname (I think "basty" is unlikely)
Griffin - don't like

How about Jacob, Eli, Aaron, Henry, Samson, James, Moses, Ethan, Malachi, Edwin, Reuben, Nathaniel, Aidan, Jared, Oliver, Zachary, Daniel, Moses, Caleb, Ryan?

Bandwithering · 22/07/2011 11:38

Isaac - ok but prefer Zak (prefer Zachary really)
Noah - no. Noah's ark. TOOOO biblical for me, plus, it's a feminine sound imo.

Seth, ok but much, much prefer Saul
Logan - no. What about Logie after logie baird?
Sebastian - I really really dislike this name.
Griffin - isn't it a half man half beast thing? or is that a griffith? oh either way, Griffin is a sur name.

ok, Zak short for Isaac.

CollieandPup · 22/07/2011 11:58

band ironically having Zak as a nn is the one thing that puts us off Isaac, we both dislike it. I like Jacob but SIL's SIL has called her son that.

Lol that no one likes Griffin, no suprises everyone mocks me in RL too!

Love Seth and SebastianSmile

Logan and Griffin are very surnamey, not a fan of Isaac, and Noah I find very cutsie/trendy at the mo.

brodanbell · 22/07/2011 14:25

I like Isaac - I've not heard of the nn Zac though? Sebastian is ok, any I have known have always been Sebs, never heard of Basty.

Noah - overdone.
Seth - reminds me of an Emmerdale character and I can't get rid of that association!

Logan - quite like it even if it is a bit surnamey
Griffin - don't like or dislike it really. He will be Griff for short.

deemented · 22/07/2011 14:30

Love Seth. Not keen on any others tbh.

TBJP · 22/07/2011 16:59

I love Griffin, but that BNP bloke puts me off it.

Happymum22 · 22/07/2011 17:53

Names we both like:
Isaac - there are a lot around at the moment where i live...
Noah- nooo. nice when he's young but imagine an 18 year old Noah or older..
Seth- dont like

Names I like, which DH might come around too:
Logan- no
Sebastian (DH is very worried it would get nn basty)- Really like- more likely to be nicknamed Seb

Names I like that DH hates:
Griffin (I'm just sticking this in for fun to see what you all think) no- makes me think of Gryfindore or a surname..

MirandaGoshawk · 22/07/2011 17:57

I love Seth and Sebastian (would be nn Seb). Noah, Griffin & Isaac are nice too. Not keen on Logan.

jellybeans · 22/07/2011 20:30

Sebastian..dislike
Griffin ..terrible

how about
Evan
Ross
Bradley
Sean
Albert
Niall
Jacob

lazylula · 22/07/2011 21:37

Isaac- Love it
Noah- like
Seth- not keen
Logan-ok
Sebastian- Like, shortening I have heard is Seby

grubbalo · 22/07/2011 22:28

I have an Isaac who has NEVER been referred to as Zac (actually not that I'd have minded, one of the things I love about the name is I liked all the shortened versions). He is usually Ike or Ikey or Ikey bogo - no doubt the last 2 will stop soon!

People keep telling me how it's getting very popular but I have no personal experience of that, and the name statistics suggest it has been around the 30-40 mark for some time now.

The other one of your names I like a lot is Seth, but DB called his son that so it would be out for us. Noah is lovely but getting quite trendy (am sure will be top ten within the next few years). That may not bother you one jot though!
