Hi all. Am 36 wks with DC 1 and would love your thoughts on our girls name - Honor. We both love it but I made the mistake of telling my mum who hates it and she told my aunt who said they had a ditty at school about a girl called Honor 'he was Honor and off her all night'. They usually aren't interferring or vocal about their opinions but it's thrown me a bit!

What do you think about Honor? Middle names (DH is insisting on two) are likely to be Isabella Rose or Elizabeth Rose (Rose has to be one of them) and our surname begins with G.

I love the names Isabella and Rose but would rather keep them as middle names as I know she'd get called Izzy or Rosie, which I'm not so keen on (sorry if I offend anyone by saying that).

Thank you!

I love this name!! I would have gone for it for DD2 except our surname is same no. of syllables beginning in 'H'.

With regards to your mother...do NOT let her shake you! She will adore her granddaughter regardless of her name & will no doubt come to love the name too once it's got such lovely associations.

This exact thing happened when naming our DD2. We told my Mother in Law our choice and she laughed/made yukky faces then got her family & friends to take the mickey out of it when we were around. (The name we'd chosen was Blythe BTW) and so when DD2 was born my husband and I picked the least offensive name we could out of a hat and then spent nearly a year regretting it. At that point we changed it. She also did the same to my brother & sister in law when naming their son - it turned into a huge family stand off. B&S in Law backed down even though the name was signifiant to S in L's and the baby's cultural heritage. (They gave him 2 English sounding biblical names so that the initials would match the nn of the name they originally wanted!)

It is completely your choice, go with your heart.
