Does anyone here have an Inigo or Octavia, or know any?

I'm curious to see how the names Inigo and Octavia wear in real life. Does anyone here have a child called Inigo or Octavia or know of any?

I'd be interested to hear from people who know school-aged kids or adults with the name and what experiences they have had in having it.

I love Inigo but I'm worried it's a bit 'out there' for a boy and that he'll get Inigo Montoya comments (... prepare to die) his whole life. I love the nickname Iggy but the nickname by itself doesn't go well with our last name which ends in 'ie'.

Octavia is stunning but I'm stuck for a nice nickname so am assuming most Octavia's are called by their full name?

Your comments are appreciated! We live in Australia if that makes any difference :)

Know two Octavias and one Inigo. Both Octavias known as 'Tia' but I've heard them referred to variously as 'Tavi', 'Occy' (?!) and 'Vivi'. Don't like it personally, I find it a bit of the Tarquin ilk.

I used to work in a building called Inigo Jones and everyone (postmen, delivery drivers etc) called it the Indigo Jones which drove me mad, and would put me off, though Inigo is a fab name.

The only Octavia I know goes by Taves as a NN.

I know a 5 year old inigo (like the architect), nicknamed Ini

I know (or have known) quite a few Octavias, in fact, about 10 now I come to think of it! It's becoming quite common now isn't it? All bar one were known by their full name. The one was Tasha.

Love them both, but especially Inigo.

I desperately wanted Inigo for DS2 but DH refused!! I love it, Octavia is great too. I'm in Australia too, incidentally :)

Weirdly, I knew a family that had both an Inigo AND an Octavia - they were the children of the local vicar, there were 8 in total, the first was Adam (obvs!), Inigo came in the middle, and then the 7th and 8th were Septimus and Octavia!

Happymum22 · 20/07/2011 19:19

know an octavia nicknames Occy.. I dont like occy but octavia is beautiful. She could be nicknamed Tavia or Ava.

I know an Iggy, i don't actually know his full name! But assume its Inigo.. wouldnt name my child it but dont dislike it, nothing wrong with it that would make me joke about it or think poor child.

Beamur · 20/07/2011 19:21

I know an Inigo and think its a fab name. He gets called 'Inny'

CointreauVersial · 20/07/2011 19:23

I know an Inigo; he's nine.

He's one of six, and they all have quite extraordinary (but wonderful) names.

Octavia is one of my fave Jilly Cooper books!

JemimaMuddledUp · 20/07/2011 19:23

Inigo makes me think of slate

threefeethighandrising · 21/07/2011 00:27

I love the name, it was on our list and was just piped to the post by DS's name.

If I have another boy it's is a serious contender. The only think making me think twice is that an old school friend has an Inigo.

Love the NN Iggy BTW, hadn't thought of that one!

herecomesthsun · 21/07/2011 08:08

I wd have gone Septimus Octavia had I had enough children. Not sure about Quentin though.

Bandwithering · 21/07/2011 09:32

What would their equivalents be for one and two?

Uno and Dos. ??

Bumpsadaisie · 21/07/2011 09:46

Bandwithering

Would have been Primo/a and Secundo/a. Like Primo Levi, etc.

Bumpsadaisie · 21/07/2011 09:49

I think its particularly nice if people have lost a child when they give their following child a "number" name or middle name which just is a reminder that another child did exist.

Eg Evelyn Waugh called his 6th living child Septimus, an acknowledgement that his wife lost one before he was born. My mother had a stillborn little boy in between me and DSis, and her middle name is Tercia.

Patsy99 · 21/07/2011 14:22

I was taught by a barrister called Inigo, it's a great name. I'm less keen on Octavia, a bit old lady to my ear.

redheadbedhead · 23/07/2011 07:14

I know a very sexy and lovely man called Inigo from Spain. Great name in my head because it's associated with him!

Octavia - not so much. Sounds like a mean old posh woman to me!! Sorry.

ellesabe · 23/07/2011 20:07

I teach at a primary school which boasts two Inigos. Never met an Octavia.

mrsmullan · 29/07/2011 10:27

My DS is Inigo. Have always loved the name. He's only a baby so no school experience to report. We have had rather a lot of 'Indigo' though- doesn't bother me too much though (yet...) I just correct it.

sunshinejanuary · 29/07/2011 10:55

Went to school with an Octavia - she got called Oggy!
