This chosing the name lark is so difficult. We have just found a name that we both like and agree on an DH goes and discusses it with PIL (not saying the this is the one but one of the list) and they hate it!!

So I've been sent on a mission to find out the MN opinion. What do you think of this one, please?

Honestly, DD2 is in danger of being called the same name as DD1, as we just cannot make our silly minds up...

Thanks

dreadful, I only say this as the mother of a child who was bullied mercilessly by a girl called Frederika.
Had she not been, I still would not have liked it.

Sinople · 12/07/2011 10:52

not a nice name imo

Fifis25StottieCakes · 12/07/2011 18:48

Dont like it sorry

What about

Thomasine/Thomasena

Ina or Ena as nn

bigbluebump · 12/07/2011 21:35

I like Frederika. Elegant and feminine imo.

Depends who you ask. If you asked this on German internet forum, you'd get lots of positive comments. In the UK it seems less popular and seen more as a feminine version of Frederic.

i know a Fredrica/Fredi. i think it's lovely.

whatever17 · 13/07/2011 01:46

It's gross, sorry.

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 13/07/2011 01:58

I really like it, but I love Frederick as a name. I know a little Frederique who isn't French, who goes by Freddie. There's also Winifred if you really just want a Freddie.

razzlebathbone · 13/07/2011 09:49

I wouldn't choose it but if you both love it then I see no reason why you shouldn't choose it. It's nothing to do with anyone else. It's certainly not stupid or ghastly.

Thank you all again for taking time to comment.

I like the ika ending but not Fred so much - so for me not a name I'd choose. Oddly I just finished a novel this morning with an English Frederika in it. Not a name I have come across much

ZZZenAgain · 13/07/2011 13:30

definitely a strong name, has a clear look to it

MrsHuxtable · 14/07/2011 14:02

I love the name. In fact, we will most likely be using it if our baby is a girl. We'll have Frieda as a nickname. But then I'm German so don't find the name unusual at all. The name is as classic as it gets in Central Europe...

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/07/2011 14:07

I LOVE it. I prefer the spelling Frederica however, but Frederika is lovely.

I would totally be put off by Freddie as a nickname, however, I think that is vile.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/07/2011 14:09

Frieda as a shortened version is lovely.

You would just have to plan to dismember anyone who called her Freddie Grin

BeeMyBaby · 15/07/2011 14:40

Love it, a girl at school was called that and she was so pretty etc so it personally makes me think its an incredibly pretty name by association. Her nn was Freddie though.
