Does anyone else find the name Nathaniel really irritating?

That's it really. Just had to air my thoughts as the name seems so popular on here at the moment.

No, it's lovely! But strangely, I don't like Nathan.

No, I think it's a lovely name. I really like it. I like Nathan too.

When I was 10, though, my friend had a new baby brother and I saw his name written down before I heard it said by anyone. I thought it must be pronounced like the two names "Nathan" and "Neil" one after the other: Nay-than-NEE-ul.

I still hear it that way in my head when I read it. But that's my problem, it's a great name.

Yes.

I've always found the -iel bit on the end a tad pretentious.. the only one I've met had taken pretension to heart as well.

I like it, it's on the list for DC2

I love it but then DS is a Nathaniel.

I don't like it very much. Thankfully we all have different tastes Smile.

I like it but probably would never have used it.
Joshua is the name that winds me up.
I know loads of Joshes and they are all Johuas but there was a mother on another board who liked to do the perfect mother thing, and quite enjoyed the attention of having a sick child who always referred to her son as Joshua and it ended up winding me up something awful. I don't mind Josh but whenever I hear the name Joshua I just cringe.
