How did you get around your DP and got the name you loved, but he hated?

My DS3's name is Oscar. His dad hated it but I loved it, and still do. In all my hormonal state, Oscar's dad (my ex P) felt sorry for me and eventually gave in, but with the other two I had to let go of my favourites and settle on a compromise FWIW, I think ex-P has warmed to Oscar, as our little one is such an Oscar :)

I would whisper my fav girls name in his ear when he was sleeping and tried the drip drip method of suggestion. He eventually agreed, but we had a DS!!

Still, maybe next time ........

I tried and failed. We compromised instead.

Had to have a c-section. I didn't demand, but I think I got the sympathy vote...

You have to compromise-none of mine have names that were my first choice.

I had a really crap birth with DD1. So when he asked me "what I we going to call her then" 2 days later, he just went with it even if he had said no before.

I gave him the middle name that I didn't like for DD2, I had the first name that I (she? [spooky emoticon]) wanted.

Dh hated Oscar too, when I was expecting dc3, I kept suggesting it but it was a no go, no problem in the end as we had a dd! That said, he also didn't like the name we have for dd when I first suggested it in that pregnancy (despite the fact that it was one of 2 names we had for a girl when we had ds2). 4 days before I had dd I was going through a name website and said it again and he said he liked it now! That was enough for me as although I liked the other 2 names we had agreed on, I much preferred this name. All that said, with both ds2 and dd dh has said you chose whatever you like when I am on the operating table! I wouldn't choose anything he really didn't like and with ds2 I actually chose his favourite rather than my own.

him thinking both me and the baby were going to die in childbirth did it. backfired tbh though, she got my fave name i'd been trying to convince him of for months while i was still unconscious in a gesture of 'thank fuck you're both ok, have anything you want' but its not the name i would have actually used on meeting her. it took ME a good 9 months to grow to like it, 2 years and i still think its wrong though. but dont tell him.

I didn't. It's as much his place to have a name he likes as it is me. In fact when on day 6 dd2 still wasn't named and I sobbed he said 'oh just chose the name you want'. I didn't though as I didn't want to pick a name he didn't like, and I wasn't crying to try and convince him, it was complete baby blues!

Anyway we compromised and both love the name we eventually settled on.
