this little girl is called...... Phalia

pronounced "failure"

It must be a real name in another language??!!!!

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 04/07/2011 19:47

I dunno, but the child and her parents are completely typical ordinary Brits

Either they were thinking of the name Thalia and got it wrong.... or they have special links to the town in Pakistan?

UndiscoveredApprentice · 04/07/2011 20:53

How can it be pronounced Failure if it ends in IA, surely it is pronounced Fay Lia, to rhyme with the flower dahlia, with no R at the end?

Worst name I heard this week was a toddler called Urban, a wee girl, too.

osd · 04/07/2011 20:56

Worst still my mate called her little girl peekaboui moon. Pronounced peek a boo, her reason is a shorter version is pee and is cute. Love my mate, but madness. Chicken me said it was lovely and unusual. Blush

Slambang · 04/07/2011 21:02

Are you sure its not Thalia with a cockney 'f' instead of 'th'?

tammy234 · 04/07/2011 21:32

Yeah, I bet it is Thalia.

saidthespiderwithahorridsmile · 04/07/2011 21:35

No, it's definitely Phalia - I saw it written down. I work in childcare.

I pronounce "failure" the same way as "fay lia". I suppose if you have a bit of a burr in your accent it would be different.

Undiscovered - depends on your accent - Dahlia, Failure, and Thalia (assuming 'th' pronounced 'f' ) would all have the same ending where I'm from.

See, I'd pronounce Thalia and Phalia very differently to FailURE.

squeak2392 · 04/07/2011 21:56

Yeah, I wouldn't have noticed 'Failure' either if you hadn't pointed it out!
I think Phalia's really pretty, but if that's how it's pn in some places, then I think that makes it a NO.

cheesesarnie · 04/07/2011 21:59

i thought thalia was prounouced tar lia?am i being snobby?

HerRoyalNotness · 04/07/2011 22:02

Well it's not bad. On the other hand, I give you........

Mc Cart ne y, girl

{spaces inserted in case they search}

Fifis25StottieCakes · 04/07/2011 22:12

Im a Geordie and would pronounce it

Phalia - fal ley a
Falilure - fail ya

Must depend what accent you have and how you pronounce it.

Ive seen worse.

meditrina · 04/07/2011 22:20

I've never seen it before, and would rhyme it with Thalia. (But might, perhaps, think she was very overdue and they'd had non-stop hot curries to get her moving).

JanMorrow · 05/07/2011 11:27

I would assume it is pronounced Far-lee-a. Could be worse..

YaMaYaMa · 05/07/2011 11:31

Haha 'peekaboui moon'! That's the first name that's ever me do an actual lol!

Is your friend a mad hippy? I feel like I might like her if she's prepared to call her child peekaboui moon Grin

Urban is just grim though, isnt it?

tammy234 · 05/07/2011 11:32

Agree - there are worse names than Phalia (also like Thalia).

Blackcoffeeandcigarettes · 05/07/2011 11:34

Tinkerbella. I shit you not. I know a baby Tinkerbella. Tink for short.

purplepidjin · 05/07/2011 11:38

Fifis25StottieCakes · 05/07/2011 11:44

mumonahottinroof · 05/07/2011 11:55
