so I think we've narrowed it down to these two names should we have a girl.

I'd like to meet baby before making a final decision but would like some opinions just out of sheer interest.

I love both both!

I've never even heard of Miranda Hart, whoever she is.

"I did have concerns that Miranda is a grown up name but I'm really not a fan of cutesy names."

but you like a nn of Mimi?

Northernlurker · 06/07/2011 20:01

Thing about nicknames though is that you use them when the dc are little and cute Smile Then you have the proper name for when they are oncologists and brain surgeons and war correspondants.

Mimi would perhaps be what my 22 month old would call her potential little sister, pilates, and it certainly wouldn't be what I'd introduce her as/refer to her as. I believe in using the full given name, but that's just me

as a Miranda - i am not posh just have class Wink
when small was Mimi
did not love it when little but then wanted to be Mandy or Amanda ....
Once i was a teen I loved it - have loved it ever since .
I would name my own baby girl Miranda in a flash. Emilia noce but lots Emily/ Emilia/Amelie/Amelias about

pipparoo · 07/07/2011 12:11

That's so great to read Goblin, thank you. I definitely think classy as opposed to posh when I hear the name Miranda

Love Miranda, not keen on Emilia, as others have said she would have to spell it out al the time as there are so many Amelia/Amelie/Emily/Emilie/Emilas around.

threefeethighandrising · 07/07/2011 12:30

Miranda's lovely, great name :)

solospud · 07/07/2011 13:00

pipparoo · 07/07/2011 14:36

That's constructive, thanks solospud!

My sister is called Miranda and she has always loved her name and received positive comments about it. She's 22 now and very much a bubbly, adventurous, down-to-earth person. She actually looks a lot like Miranda Otto and young Miranda Richardson. Although biased, I do think it is a lovely name with a lovely meaning.

Emilia is also beautiful so you can't go wrong with either choice. It depends on whether you would prefer a more, or less, popular choice. Emilia ranked #90 in 2009 (with Amelia #9). Miranda ranked #783.

Emilia is too much like Amelia (which I dont' like either).
Miranda is cool imho.

Both lovely names. My DTD2 is Emily Miranda. I wanted Miranda as her first name, but DH vetoed.
