Okay so me and dh have come up with our list of boys and girls names for dc no.3. These are the ones we both agree on but not necessarily the ones we are in love with iykwim. They are:

Girls
Bethany
Eva
Lily
Gracie
Megan
Georgia

Boys
George
Charlie
Jack
Thomas
Bradley
Alfie
Henry

The thing is i really do not see my child being called any of these names. Sorry if this offends but they are all a bit dull and boring and they do not standout imo. Can anybody suggest anything similar but with a bit more character?

Can you tell us what your other DCs are called, so we can get a flavour of your taste?

Girls:
Meredith
Meryl
Tamsin
Blaise

Boys:
Laurence
Conrad
Arlo
Hadrian

MelinaM · 15/06/2011 17:08

They are all quite 'of the moment/ cutsie' ...no offence intendedSmile

I agree, what are your other DC's names?

PatriciatheStripper · 15/06/2011 17:12

Mercy for a girl

For a boy, why not look at other traditional names that aren't as currently fashionable: Anthony, Robert, Michael, David, Andrew, that sort of name. There are lots of these, no need to join the vast armies of Henry, Thomas, Jack etc. You could even go for John!

Janoschi · 15/06/2011 17:28

Or how about 30s-40s Americana chic?

Clancy
Rocky
Dill
Woodrow
Clayton
Purcell

Claudette
Norah
Constance
Rita

mopsyflopsy · 15/06/2011 18:16

Agree, your suggestions are very 'now' and will probably date more than more classic timeless names. Have a look at the ONS list of ALL baby names given last year (or 2009) - there are thousands of gorgeous classic underused names once you look beyond the top 100.

MordechaiVanunu · 15/06/2011 18:42

I offer:

Gregory for a boy.

Dilys for a girl.

Lonnie · 15/06/2011 19:23

check out the website nameberry. its has lots of lists names. Like cool baby names, mythical etc but also it gives you similar names to ones you like at the bottom of the page. It might help you pick that name.

How about
Annie or Tess/Tessa
Alexander or Alistair

I LOVE these names, but I think they will become very popular over the next few years (Tess and Alexander especially) so you could get in before the rush?

FunnysInTheGarden · 15/06/2011 22:27

How about Fabian or Raphael (Rafe for short) Not that I am guilty of pushing my sons names, oh no Grin

Girls - don't have one, but Martha, Eliza and Hester (Hetty) all on my shortlist

goatshavestrangeeyes · 16/06/2011 10:00

The problem is getting dh to agree on one, he's fussy! I mentioned the name Hester to him and he was like 'Hester? what kind of name is THAT?!'

I love Fabian, may try and persuade dh on that one.

Our dc's are Eleanor and Jacob

OP posts:
peanutbutterkid · 16/06/2011 10:16

Gosh, Jacob is sooooooo popular. Almost ordinary (not a criticism, I have DC with ordinary names).
Alexander has always been popular here. It kind of bores me, to be honest!

Phoebe, Saffron, Isabella, Michaela, Sophia, Ada, Danielle, Emilia, Iris, Violet, Diana, Alice
Iago, Lloyd, Lawrence, David, Nicholas, Edgar, Vincent, Dillon,

nicolamumof3 · 16/06/2011 10:23

Am struggling too with same thing. we are expecting first dd next month and still can't decide. After three boys feels like more pressure!!

swanker · 17/06/2011 10:27

COuld you give us a clue on your DS's names nicola? Presumably you want something that complements them...

Lancelottie · 17/06/2011 10:38

Hmm, we have oodles of Eleanors and Jacobs here too. I'd say you don't want anything too far out to go with those.
Eleanor, Jacob and Romilly?
Eleanor, Jacob and Clara?
Eleanor, Jacob and Susanna?
Eleanor, Jacob and Sasha?
Eleanor, Jacob and Harriet?

Eleanor, Jacob and Nicholas?
Eleanor, Jacob and Isaac?
Eleanor, Jacob and Patrick?
Eleanor, Jacob and Saul?
Eleanor, Jacob and Sebastian?
