Abigail, April...A names for girls

Husband suggested Abigail or April...

Does April sound too american or is it just me?

And is there any other nickname for Abigail besides Abbey or Gail...I really dislike both!

Can you think of some other great "a" names...

I don't think April is particularly American - but to put it beyond doubt, you could go for Avril.

I love April, it was on our list for DD2 but with our surname it sounds like April Fool and she was born in April.

My DD, 7 yo is called April. Some people ask was she born in April "nope, May". My DH choose the name and to me it sounded pretty, different and confident. Didnt cross my name it was American sounding. My mum and sister at first thought it was too different but now love it. Nearly everyone comments on what a pretty name it is. It suits her too, shes pretty (of course :) ), bubbly, cheery, and a bit quirky. We also thought about Abigail too!

Annabel is cute too. But call me biased, April is a great name. Not American sounding.

Abigail is a fab name although was a PITA to grow up with in the 70's. I am an Abi which I really like or Abs for best friends! April is lovely too, but obv Abigail is better

funny My DD is an Abi who's friends call her Abs & her sister calls her aba daba dooooo! which she hates

BUT as an Abigail, I get called Annabel an awful lot. Even my doctor who I have known for 13 years called me Annabel on Friday. No it's ABIGAIL

Bohica have never been called aba daba dooo, but have been called Abbey National and Abi Snow, Abi Wind ie Not gail. My family also call me Abi Babby, which is nice and affectionate. Tis a great name, well done!

My sister's an Abigail who's always been Abbie. I think it's a shame because Abigail is just beautiful.

Abigail is one of those names that is like nails on a blackboard to me. i can't explain it, i just yurgh at it. likewise Annabel.
