Is Saffron just a posh Chardonnay?

Well, it seems that we used the only name we liked and agreed on for DD1. DD2 is due in September and we seem to be stuck...

What's the Mumsnet's opinion of the above, please?

My dn is saffron, I think it's pretty, she's the only one I know Smile

I just think of the daughter from Absolutely Fabulous. I'm sure your daughters peers will not made the association.

FriskyMare · 31/05/2011 09:20

Beautiful name, I know of a Sorrell which I think is gorgeous too.

Grabaspoon · 31/05/2011 09:21

Yes - there are a lot of them amongst the posh set around here.

Not really bothered about Ab Fab, like the shortened Saffie as well, actually. Just wanted to put the feelers out, chosing a name is such a bloody hard work! Thanks!

Quite like Sorrell, too. I am quite sure DH would look at me funny, though...

Saffron is very nice. Chardonnay is in a league of its own....

rachel234 · 31/05/2011 14:39

I don't like it personally, sorry.

onlylivinggirl · 31/05/2011 14:44

I think it's a bit naff I'm afraid- in the same genre as Chardonnay -I have a close friend with a daughter called Saffron and it hasn't grown on me at all - bit its just personal taste- my friend still loves it

mayanna123 · 31/05/2011 14:46

Saffron sounds very unfeminine - I don't like it at all, I'm afraid.

Runoutofideas · 31/05/2011 15:17

I would link Saffron with Sienna, India and Jasmine. No where near as bad as Chardonnay but verging on the same territory.....

valiumbandwitch · 31/05/2011 15:26

It's not to my taste! but only Chardonnay is like Chardonnay. I can't believe that people were inspired by a PISS-take!!

skorpion · 31/05/2011 15:31

Oh, no! 180 degree swing in consensus! This is too much! Well, we still have four months to think... Thanks All.

I think it's in the same camp as Chardonnay - or Shardonai as a girl in DS1's class spells it - there's no hope for the poor child :shakeshead:

adamschic · 31/05/2011 15:37

I think it was very innovative in the hippy 60's.

Sorrell sounds like sorrow to me.

mayanna123 · 31/05/2011 15:54

And the nickname for Sorrell would bey Sorry Hmm?
