I like Isaiah, Imogen and Bronagh!

serendipity16 · 30/05/2011 11:35

My favourites are George, Elliot, Charlotte (but not keen on Lottie), Pippa (love that name) and Imogen.

You've picked some lovely names.

randomimposter · 30/05/2011 11:36

George or Elliot
Imogen

would be my choices

coccyx · 30/05/2011 11:41

Why name a child Charlotte, then straight away shorten it?? Why not just go for Lottie

MeantToStopAtTwo · 30/05/2011 11:52

George is a great boy name. I'm not keen on any of the others though. For girls my favourites are Harriet and Charlotte.

slartybartfast · 30/05/2011 11:59

i like all the girls names , dont know how to pronounce bronagh though.

and i probalylike all the boys names

slartybartfast · 30/05/2011 12:00

wont pippa be referred to the middleton pippa?

ChippingIn · 30/05/2011 12:02

I'm not sure how to say this without the PC squad on my back but - I think it makes a difference what nationality you & DH are and where you live.

With the boys names if you are british, living in the UK & they aren't family names I think any of your choices other than George are a bit odd - (well, except Elliot which I just don't like) and if Oscar is your other sons name (as opposed the dog or something) I think George goes best.

Harriet - the only one I know is a right little madam so it puts me off!
Charlotte (shortened to Lottie) - I like Lottie - but Charlotte is overly popular right now - likely to be 4 of them in her class!
Molly - like
Pippa - like
Imogen - like if you don't mind Immy or Imo
Bronwyn - no, dated
Bronagh - never heard of it, not keen

HTH Grin

tummytickler · 30/05/2011 12:02

Wow! Quite a mix of names there!
I love Isaiah and Ishmael.
Not keen in the girks names.
Israel has a beautiful sound, but not really suitable for a name imo ( a lot of places in this area are beautiful Jerusalem, Nazareth etc all beautiful).

ArsumLardis · 30/05/2011 12:08

I haven't a clue how to pronounce Bronagh. If it's like most Irish names, something like Charles? Wink

squeak2392 · 30/05/2011 12:18

Israel (but only if non-white)
Elliot
Isaiah
Don't like the other two.

Harriet
Molly
Pippa
Imogen
The others are okay, but these are nicer.

elah11 · 30/05/2011 12:18

Bronagh is pronounced BRO (as in toe) - na, and it means sadness or sorrow as far as I know.

From your list I like Isaiah and Harriet.

suspiria · 30/05/2011 12:35

My favourites are Isaiah, Ishmael, Harriet, Charlotte and Imogen

BikeRunSki · 30/05/2011 12:48

Pippa v popular too.

Youcantaffordme · 30/05/2011 13:03

George - a good classic English name, doesn't date
Israel - I don't care for placenames
Elliot - always a surname to me
Isaiah - one Isaiah than the other, lol
Ishmael - CALL ME ISHMAEL! ( opening line of Moby Dick )

Harriet - dislike intensely
Charlotte - I like. Give her the full name.
Molly - dislike intensely
Pippa - dislike intensely
Imogen - nice Shakespearean ring, bit common now though
Bronwyn - don't really like
Bronagh - don't like

There you go, sorted. :o

freesias · 30/05/2011 13:13

bronagh i think means sadness don't know if that puts you off

ManicAnnie · 30/05/2011 13:26

I love Isaiah and ishmael. If I were brave, I would have pushed for Israel for my DS.

George is boring. Elliot is horrible (Elijah and Elias are both lovely, though).

I like and Imogen and Harriet (Hattie is a fab NN).

Charlotte is nice but dull.

Pippa - yuck.
Molly - like Moll, but Molly a bit cutesy. Polly is better somehow.
Really not keen on Bronwyn
There are much nicer Irish girls names than Bronagh. Clodagh or Orlaith?

smother · 30/05/2011 17:40

George and Bronwyn are by far my favourites on your list! I love the name Bronwyn especially.

Checkmate · 30/05/2011 17:53

Israel is very politically charged to have as a first name. I've got a friend who has changed his from Israel to Izzy legally and got a new passport as he worked as an engineer for an oil company and was having trouble at immigration when he arrived at middle east countries for work trips.

Like most of your other names though.

Trinaluce · 30/05/2011 18:50

Don't really dislike any of those, although I agree Israel would be a bit of a burden.

Just to be REALLY picky, Bronwyn is a boy's name. BronwEn would be the correct girl's spelling :)

oohlaalaa · 31/05/2011 18:34

I like:

George
Elliot

I like Ishmael, if you are muslim. To me, Israel is a country rather than boys name. Isaiah is just too biblical, it is on the likes of Jeremiah, rather than Matthew, Mark, Luke, John.

Harriet
Charlotte
Molly
Pippa
Imogen
Bronwen

I like Bronagh, if you are irish.

Wottywot · 31/05/2011 19:06

George - ok but keeps reminding me of Heather in Eastenders!
Israel - Yes, I like because we have Jewish blood in the family!
Elliot - not really
Isaiah - I love it, I wanted it, but had a mean Ex called it so it's a no for us.
Ishmael - I like

Harriet - not really
Charlotte (shortened to Lottie) I like Lottie, charlotte not too much
Molly - reminds me of Corrie!
Pippa - yes, but reminds me of horsey people!
Imogen - not really
Bronwyn - Nice if you are Welsh?
Bronagh - Not really

Italiangreyhound · 01/06/2011 01:56

Love:
Elliot
Isaiah

Quite like: George

Love
Harriet
and
Imogen

MollyMurphy · 01/06/2011 02:19

I like George out of the boys

Your girls list is good....I guess of them I'd pick Bronwyn.

oh...and Molly of course Grin
