...? (As a sibling. Not bothered about initials being the same, but do they sound too similar..?)

Yes and a bit of a tongue twister to say together!

Tortoise · 23/05/2011 22:32

Yes I think they do sound to similar.

zookeeper · 23/05/2011 22:34

yes. Don't do it. Me and my sis have very similar names and it's painful to hear my mum get us mixed up

breadandhoney · 23/05/2011 22:34

I agree that they sound quite similar.

typsical · 23/05/2011 22:34

I guess I knew this before I asked. Anyone suggest names with a similar 'feel' to Orla...? I think I like the idea of the 'golden-haired princess'...

Oonagh?

zookeeper · 23/05/2011 22:38

Oon and Ollie Grin

reddaisy · 23/05/2011 22:39

Yes they do. But both are gorgeous names!!!

reddaisy · 23/05/2011 22:39

Lara?

typsical · 23/05/2011 22:41

I like Lara, but can't have an 'r' in it! But thank you! Any more along those lines reddaisy...?

OP posts:
typsical · 23/05/2011 22:43

As in the 'r' sound. Orla is okay IYSWIM!

OP posts:
reddaisy · 23/05/2011 22:43

I like Lola which has no "r" in it but it isn't to everyone's taste.

reddaisy · 23/05/2011 22:44

You mean in the second part of the name then really?

typsical · 23/05/2011 22:44

I used to like it, but I know one, which puts me off. But thanks again. I'm off to bed, keep thinking for me, thanks lots! :)

OP posts:
typsical · 23/05/2011 22:46

Erm, well it defintiely can't start with an R either. A close relative struggles with the 'r' sound! :) So Lara might be Lawa :)

*definitely

Thea, Emma, Sophia, Anna, Freya, Isabella, Jessica, I know you don't want any "rs" but I love Dora!! But DP hates it so it will never happen for us!

(I also nearly just suggested Livia which would have been stupid!)

SloganLogan · 23/05/2011 22:55

I do think Orla and Oliver are very similar.

How about Isla, Emma, Nina, Elsa, Lana, Megan, Iona?

aswellasyou · 23/05/2011 22:56

I think it's lovely! It's my niece's name so I'm a lot biased. I actually think they go well together. It's not like you want to call her Olivia.

KenDoddsDadsDog · 24/05/2011 06:53

Orla does have an 'r' sound in it though. It's not Awla.

shoobidoo · 24/05/2011 08:27

Yes far too similar imo, I'm afraid.

ellangirl · 24/05/2011 08:52

Aoife, Isolde, Sadie, Fiona, Keavy all have some meaning to do with princess or fair I think (not quite golden hair but close!).
Similar endings: Adela, Della, Talia, Milla, Viola, Fenella.

MeantToStopAtTwo · 24/05/2011 15:46

Alas yes, I think they do. It's a shame as they are both great names.

stillstanding · 24/05/2011 15:47

I don't think they are too similar but suspect they could be a bit of a tongue-twister ... Go for them if you love them!
