Isabella is very nice (and very popular). Not keen on Lola.

Benjamin and...

Gabriella
Sophie/Sophia
Charlotte
Emily
Abigail

Both your names are a bit overused at the moment.

How do you feel about your daughter being one of two.. or even THREE Isabellas or Lolas (thank you Nicole Kidman and Madonna) in her class at school? Wouldn't you rather she was special?

Find a new name! It's fun!

I don't know any Lolas,
I like Lola and Benjamin.
but we are snowed under with Isabel variants all of whom want the right spelling and the right short form.
I'm sure DS will become Ben (like it or not) and Abby and Ben or Amy and Ben work well and work with Benjamin too

speakercorner · 13/05/2011 09:01

I don't know any Lolas either and think it's pretty - loads of Isabellas tho. I do think Isabella is beautiful. It was my favourite name for years, and I would have used it if it had gone with dh's surname.

Also love Abigail and Clarissa and Clara.

I read the heading to this thread, and thought you were suggesting Iola (a welsh name pronounced yo-la).

I like Iola, but do not like Lola (she's a showgirl or tranvestite - depending on whether you listen to Barry Manilow or The Kinks).

Much presfew Isabella, also love Clarissa as suggested by speakercorner.

Bert2e · 13/05/2011 10:25

WSS - Lola is a horrid name for a little girl :-(

GeneralDreedlesNurse · 13/05/2011 10:28

Like ShouldNotBeThere I thought you were suggesting Iola which is lovely (like Lola as well, but not necessarily with Benjamin).

I'm not keen on Isabella, prefer Isobel and think benjamin and Bella sounds a tad twee.

What about Madeline or Molly or Naomi

evamummy · 13/05/2011 11:00

Isabella is way overused imo and Lola sounds wrong on a child. I actually agree that Iola is a lovely underused name.

Bumpsadaisie · 13/05/2011 11:12

Lola - is a 1950s US nightclub name (see also Ruby, Scarlett). Sounds like something out of Goodfellas. The other association is with Lolita. Both of these associations in my mind suggest something quite sexual and therefore I can't imagine it on a baby/small girl.

Sorry!

MelinaM · 13/05/2011 11:43

Isabella is beautiful but extremely popular, and Lola is the new Lily/Lila, I know of three all under the age of 2 - and all with the middle name Grace or Rose! I'd choose something fresh and less common for your little lady[smile

Alexandra
Anna
Beatrice
Delilah
Helena
Catherine -Kitty
Ophelia
Paloma
Tabitha
Tamara
Tess

CharlieBoo · 13/05/2011 11:43

Isabella is lovely, much nicer than Lola.

sonniebonnie · 13/05/2011 14:17

Agree that as nice as Isabella is, it has become a little overused and lost some of its beauty as a result imo. Lola feels very faddy and not very elegant. I like Melina's suggestions - all very beautiful classic names that aren't as overused.

sonniebonnie · 13/05/2011 14:18

Having said that, we may of course have very different tastes and the main thing is that YOU and your DH love your choices Smile.

shouldnotbehere · 13/05/2011 15:47

How about Isadora?

pilates · 13/05/2011 16:30

Isabella - lovely, Lola - showgirl.

sunshinescarlett · 15/05/2011 11:53

I think Benjamin and Isabella sound lovely together. What does it matter if it is a popular name. If you like it for your DD go for it. Other names that I like, which I think have got a similar feel are:

Arabella
Sophia
Alexandra
Alessia
Beatrice
Florence
Lucia
Annabel
Matilda

Thanks for ur suggestions good and bad, although I have to say don't know any Lola's yet and I live in the baby capital of england lol although loving Delilah, paloma and Tamara (although best friend is named Tamara so that wouldnt be a bad thing naming her after such a genuine person/kind person). Also have to say I feel that my baby will be special no matter what I name her!

Bella and Isabella are both very pretty. The name Lola makes me think of a stripper, I'm afraid.

Ihavewelliesbuttheyrenotgreen · 17/05/2011 12:46

I like Isabella best out of your suggestions but also like

Miranda
Naomi
Phoebe
Elsa
Esther
Clara
Alice
