Glen - becoming gender-neutral?

I have a boy. I need a name.

Do you think Glen is still 100% a boy's name or is it a bit androgynous?
The only female Glen I can think of is Glen Close, but I've seen Glen listed as either.

Also, what do you think of Glen, Gordon or Douglas for a Mac surname?

I have a friend called Glenn (male), and he blames the second "n" for making his name unisex.

I've only ever met male Glenns, and only with the double-n spelling. I have only positive associations with the name, and think it would be nice with a Mac surname.

MercurySoccer · 11/05/2011 17:33

I think of it as a male name.

meditrina · 11/05/2011 17:35

I think of Glen as a boy's name too. I'm not keen on Gordon, but quite like Douglas.

rachel234 · 11/05/2011 17:36

Boys name, I like it.

fruitshootsandheaves · 11/05/2011 17:36

I only know a male Glenn spelt with 2 n's. (he hasn't got a thick neck, will look more closely when i next see him)
I would automatically assume it was referring to a male.

Hulababy · 11/05/2011 17:37

I have only ever met boys with the name Glen/Glenn - have seen both spellings used. Not a name you come across very much in children round here these days though so not seen veyr much recently.

MelinaM · 11/05/2011 18:02

For me Glen is definitely a male name!

fallingandlaughing · 11/05/2011 19:11

Douglas is great.

Not really a fan of Glen.

squeak2392 · 11/05/2011 22:00

I've never heard of Glen on a girl. It probably stems from Glenys/Glynnis, whatever it is.

Don't like Gordon.
Douglas is nice, although I don't like Doug.

I think Glen works.

ShoutyHamster · 11/05/2011 22:44

Like totally no way man.

Glen is about as gender-neutral as Roy in my book Grin

It's not the nicest name though!

Gordon, Douglas-no no- sorry!

Gregory?

Only in America where they like to turn a lot of traditionally male names into female ones. I saw an American female called Robin on telly the other day - Robyn I have seen for a female but never with that spelling!

I really don't think anyone in the UK would assume Glen was female Smile

Not keen on Gordon (maybe the Brown connection Smile) but Dougie ok..

kreecherlivesupstairs · 12/05/2011 13:18

Glen is a boy's name. Fact.
Douglas is a good middle name. Another fact.

flopsy1974 · 12/05/2011 13:58

Glen is definately a male name. Not keen on it though. Sorry. Douglas however is great.
