So DC4 is due in a few weeks time and we know for sure he's a boy - but we just cannot agree on a name and would really love you to comment on these. Please be gentle :)

Indiana ( NB our surname is not Jones) this is DH's number one choice [chmm]
Indy
Joachim (latin prononunciation Jo-a-kim)
Sebastian - I really don't like the nn Seb tho'

I like Alexander/Xander but DH is not keen as dislikes Alex as a nn

Views/opinions & comments all welcomed and appreciated. Thanks all

Indiana and Indy have too much cultural/celebrity baggage for me, but I love Joachim and Alexander (especially if it's shortened to Xander).

Sebastian's OK, but not one of my especial faves.

Hope you have a safe and happy delivery!

cookielove · 01/05/2011 19:19

Oh i love Indiana but don't think i would be brave enough to name my child that, def with Indy for short.

Like Sebastian, not sure about Joachim.

Wonders about others childrens names??

willowcrow · 01/05/2011 19:30

Thanks ttalloo I get your cultural baggage angle too but finding an alternative when DH has his heart set on it is proving impossible slightly difficult

cookielove
I have a Scarlett who is nearly 3

........and two much much older teenagers (Brett and Lucy)

Al can be the nn for Alexander.
Why Indiana... why not Illinois or Iowa? Wink Remember Indiana Jones' real name was Henry, right?

MayBankHoliday · 01/05/2011 19:50

Sebastian, or Alexander with Xander as nickname.

ttalloo · 01/05/2011 19:51

Although I'm not keen on Indiana, OP, I think it fits in reasonably well with your other DC's names, as does Alexander/Xander. Joachim and Sebastian not so well, IMO.

It is a nightmare choosing names when you can't agree. DS2 remained unnamed for three days while DH and I argued over Maximilian (his choice) and Alexis (mine) to the revulsion of all our relatives who hated both names. In the end we chose Gabriel, which suits DS2 perfectly. Although my mother did say that if we had to name him after an archangel, couldn't we have just gone for Michael, which was a biblical reference that had rather passed me by!

I love all of those names. Best boys name list I've seen on MN I think.

Alexander is my favourite with Xander nn (although I do like Alex).

Then Joachim, then Indy, Indiana and finally Sebastian.

ColonelBrandonsBiggestGroupie · 01/05/2011 19:56

Indiana is awful, sorry. I like Sebastian - no need for him to be Seb.

cookielove · 01/05/2011 20:25

Well i def think Indy would be fab, Indy and Scarlett, Brett and Lucy. Grin

bluebump · 01/05/2011 20:26

I think Dick Strawbridge's new grandson is called Indiana. I like Sebastian and Alexander.

Hdgygrl · 01/05/2011 20:39

Lex as a nn is another option.

MelinaM · 01/05/2011 20:45

Love Sebastian, nn coud be Bastian or Bas perhapsSmile

MelinaM · 01/05/2011 20:49

^Indiana Peregrine blue, not sure about that one!

evamummy · 01/05/2011 21:03

I agree that Indianana/Indy goes well with Scarlett, Brett and Lucy.

I dislike Seb/Sebastian (reminds me of sebacious, oily) too.

CarefulWithThatAxeEugene · 01/05/2011 21:24

Don't forget there's also Alec or Sandy for Alexander.

willowcrow · 01/05/2011 21:35

ahhh thanks everyone Grin Indiana does grow on you & I do think Indy works with the other 3...

I just dont know if I can face the other mums at toddler group; I find the clique's hard enough to handle on a good day ( a whole other thread me thinks) although if they were mostly like you MNer's it would great. Wink

Sebastian and Joachim sound fine - particularly if you have some Spanish/French links. Sorry, I don't like Indiana or Indy but then again I really dislike 'trendy' names for children. Alexander is more classic but isn't a personal favourite of mine, sorry.

olympialimpet · 01/05/2011 21:38

Really like Indy

Emelene · 01/05/2011 23:25

Indiana and Indy sound like girl's names to me, even with the Indiana Jones association. Maybe it's the "anna" sound.

Alexander Indy could be a compromise? Xander is a great name!

alicethehorse · 02/05/2011 01:35

Inigo

alicethehorse · 02/05/2011 01:35

Or Inigo NN Indy

ohnoshedittant · 02/05/2011 02:17

Like Indianna/Indy...but for a girl.

Don't like Joachim.

Like Sebastian. I also like Seb, but if you don't you could use Bastian (like the kid in Neverending Story?)

Like Alexander. Hate the nickname Xander though.

TotorosOcarina · 02/05/2011 03:58

DH would love Indiana if I suggested it! Him and kids worship all thinks Harrison Ford!

We are having same problem with DC4!

We are a bit set on Felix but unsure, i like Sebastian but don't think DH would.

Its so bloody hard!

manicinsomniac · 02/05/2011 04:20

I really like Joachim and Xander.

The only Indiana/Indy I know is a girl.

MollyMurphy · 02/05/2011 05:38

I can't seperate Indiana from the movie personally.

I like Sebastian and have never hear someone shorten it to Seb. I also like Xander - but I admit it makes me think of Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Joachim is a nice name but I'm embarassed to admit that I ALWAYS have to do a double take and really think when I see it because the spelling is so different than the sound of the name.
