Boys name to go with "Emmeline".

I have a DD called Emmeline - after Emmeline Pankhurst, suffragette - and I love it because it is unusual (but not going to get her beaten up, I hope) and pretty, can be shortened but also a smart adult name too. I need a boys equivalent. I like Harry/Henry, Will etc but they are very popular right now and, as a teacher, I like the thought of my child being the only "*" in the class. I did consider "Darwin" in my last pregnancy but this time, not feeling so brave. Any ideas of a traditional but not too common boys name??? We have approx 1 month to decide.

Well I think since Emmeline is named after someone who admire it would be a nice idea to do the same for your next. You said you weren't brave enough for Darwin, is Charles a possibility? (assuming that is the Darwin you considered). I am LOVING Charles at the moment - but not Charlie. Charles isn't massively popular in my area but maybe it depends where you live.

Are there any other figures that inspire you?

^I agree, is their any particular chap that you admire as much as Emmeline Pankhurst? I must say I love the name DarwinSmile
Sebastian is a personal favourite of mine, and does go so well with Emmeline, Charles is pretty fab too!

How about something French since Emmeline is a French name. Se French boys names can sound a bit feminin in English but you might consider;
Matthieu
Xavier
Sebastien
Christophe
Jerome
Francois
Yann

I think Henry would be lovely with Emmeline (my favourite name at the mo).

I don't know of any Henrys at my childrens school so not very popular where I live.

I like Sebastian or Maximillian, but have to tell you hubby's suggestions for you:- Philippene or Philestine...

AprilRose · 12/04/2011 00:14

My suggestion would be Hayden; similar to Harry and Henry, but (I think) different enough to not be everywhere you look. Unusual but not mockable...
