Well? Did you?

Were you all set on Rachel and then MN opened your eyes to the beauty of Anjelika and now you can't picture her as ever being anything else?

Or are you huffing, "those vicious cows on MN know nothing, and Mummy chose you a beautiful name, didn't I Griselda?"

I'm curious - how much sway do we actually hold?

Good question....I've always wondered that too!! Grin

Hmmm lucikly I have impeccable taste so the names I came up with were universally adored Grin

Well ok, not quite - but response was generally positive which did make me even fonder of DD's name.

I really liked Mere for DD3 Blush What the FUCK was I thinking???? I soon got sorted by the MN baby name gurus.

I went with Callia Seren in the end Grin

I sought advice about changing my baby's name, I got comments ranging from 'go for it the name you picked is common popular', to 'leave it she'll grow into it' and then after I changed it a few 'I can't believe you changed her name at 5 months- poor child'- so I followed some advice Grin

Im an odd one. I actually dont like alot of the "universally loved my mumsnetters names" - I was shocked that Myrtle gets quite a positive reponse as for me, I cant think of a more awful name. I cant understand the popularity of the likes of Beatrice and Casper etc on here either as I think they are awful.

Because of this, I dont pass too much remarks and sometimes when I post a name I like and get a negative response I think "thats probaby a really good thing cos lets face it, this lot love Myrtle" that said however, Mnet definately has (really) made me regret my daughters name as apparantly its the "chavviest girls name ever" so maybe I am a sheep after all and what you say really does affect me....

I wavered about a using the name Natasha after someone posted that in Eastern Europe it is a slang name for a prostitute. I hadn't known that before. I still used the name but am cringe slightly when introducing my dd to people with links with Eastern Europe.

I found MNs very useful. I loved the name Felix for DS2 and knew it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea but I had very positive feedback so went for it. Also MNs came up with his middle name too - Felix James - I love it and have no regrets. I shall use again for DC3. Grin

I looked to MN for opinions for the names I was considering for DD and it was very useful but once we had decided on the one we loved I didn't ask for opinions because I was sensitive sure.

Now pg with DC2 I will do the same but probably won't ask about 'the one' once we've decided we both love it.
