It's funny how your liking of a name is influenced by people you know. On any given name thread, someone will always pipe up, 'I was bullied by a Gemma/Mandy/Annabel at school so I hate that name now', but it's rarer that people say 'God, that's an objectively horrible name, but I know a fabulous Gertrude so I actually really like it now'.

I don't go in much for Irish names usually, but I make an exception for Siobhán. I've never met a nasty one. All the Siobháns I've ever come across have been really sunny and lovely.

However all (ok, most) of the Joshuas I've met are a different matter.

CorrieQueen · 08/04/2011 20:37

I have never met a nasty Anna.

CorrieQueen · 08/04/2011 20:38

Callum's are ALWAYS naughty!

WiiUnfit · 08/04/2011 20:54

I've never met a nasty Chris(topher) (both my Dad's & my DP's name strangely!), Andrew, Jason, Jenny or Lauren (I do however know a Loren who is vicious!)

All of the Kirsty's I have met have been horrible / fake, as have all the Rachel's Hmm, Judy's can be v.bossy.

3ofeach · 09/04/2011 14:45

I totally agree with the OP - DD1 is Siobhan and she is one of the loveliest and kindest people i know. proud Mummy emoticon

Stanleys are always cheeky/naughty and I should have known better than to call DS3 Stanley as he is very much living up to that description. Often wonder if he wound be calmer if i'd called him Frank!

notprEGGersjustchocolate · 09/04/2011 14:48

Tom. I have Tom, based on the fact all the Toms I know are lovely!

meadowlarks · 09/04/2011 19:59

Every Natalie I've ever known has been a complete cow. I've yet to meet a nasty Sophie, Gemma, Jenny or Rosie. For the boys, I know about 3 Callums, all of whom are little shits. On the other hand, I only know nice Harrys and Peters.

WiiUnfit · 10/04/2011 10:22

I know a v.bitchy Sophie, a seriously evil Gemma too & a very cheeky Harry! :)

muminthecity · 10/04/2011 10:50

I've only ever met lovely Lauras, Laurens and Louises.

Laras however, are bitches.

All the Peter's I've met are complete arseholes, but Tonys are lovely.

muminthecity · 10/04/2011 10:53

Oh and Lisas are generally not very nice either. It seems almost every female I know has a name beginning in 'L'!

TrillianAstra · 10/04/2011 10:54

I've nvemet a nasty Hugo, because I've never met a Hugo.

You must have met a lot of people to have more than one of every name you are considering.

oohlaalaa · 10/04/2011 13:33

Nice people names - Emma, Fay, Mary, Jane, Charles, Simon and Ian

Bad association names - Victoria, Lydia, Vanessa, Gabrielle, Camilla, Alice and Ben

KaceyMaybe · 10/04/2011 13:41

I knew a Siobhan who was up herself, and I've never met a nice Kelly. I've 'known' about five, all of whom were just rude.

I have only known lovely Vicky's though (I still don't like the name despite this!)

I loved the name Grace until one particular chav ruined it for me!

oohlaalaa · 10/04/2011 13:56

I've met lovely Vicky's and Tori's, but the person I had in mind does not like her name being shortened, and is Victoria.

PrincessScrumpy · 10/04/2011 19:54

Lovely people names I know: Lisa, Lydia (ime tend to be confident but nice), Alice and for boy's Elliot, Richard, Finn and Will

Nasty names - Natalie (bitchy), Alex, Jasmine, Jade and most "J" names for boys like Joshua, and Jordan - all the boys at the school where I work who are called Jordan are really naughty and generally horrible to others.

smother · 10/04/2011 21:32

I've never met a nasty Sam.

I haven't liked many Natashas or Natalies I have met, but that's probably just bad luck.

Pretty most all the Alices and Lucys I have met have had straight blonde hair (not a judgment on how nice they are, just an observation!)

sunshinescarlett · 10/04/2011 22:30

I have never met a nasty Phyllis. She was my nan Grin and soooooo lovely x

serin · 11/04/2011 22:42

I salute all the lovely Helens, Ellens, Margarets, Clares, Sians, Sues, Lucys, Wendys,Marys, Amys, Sarahs, Cathys, Sharons and Vickys.

Also all the Johns, Erics, Matts, Martins, Seans, and Mikes.

IHeartKingThistle · 12/04/2011 00:05

I've never taught a nice Connor and nor has anyone in my Department. That's bad isn't it? There must be some nice ones!

I know about a million Helens and they are all lovely.
