Here's the shortlist of baby names I'm considering that I generated with Mumsnet's Baby Name Finder. Let me know what you think.

Boys

Only William and Theodore are what I would consider. What about Duncan or Adrian?

hatwoman · 06/04/2011 10:27

I only really like Henry. All the others are ok except for Maxwell and Caspar which I don't like. I'd be a bit wary of William - perfectly good name but I guess it'll have a bit of a resurgence this year

BarbieLovesKen · 06/04/2011 10:31

Caspar - absolutley terrible, friendly ghost and hate this name.
George - lovely
Henry - ok
Maxwell - I like Max on its own. Not Maxwell (its a surname where I am)
Theodore - lovely
William - it appears to be on every single list here lately. Dont particulary like it, its a bit "meh" and every William I know is eventually nicknamed Willy which is horrible.

telsa · 06/04/2011 10:40

I love Caspar - think it is a fantastic name. I think of the Romantic painter Caspar David Friedrich. Prefer Theodor to Theodore. Others are very trad.

NatMac · 06/04/2011 17:27

Thanks telsa - love the connection to a painter for Caspar rather than that annoying ghost! We're in a quandry as our daughters' names aren't really traditional and don't know whether a boy can carry off a non-trad name as well as a girl can.

Thanks for the thoughts - please keep 'em coming!

i dont like Theodore but i love Theo so i would go for that one.

MelinaM · 08/04/2011 00:12

I like them all apart from Maxwell ..I know of so many dogs names Max!Grin

Theodore nn Teddy is my favourite, closely followed by Henry and GeorgeSmile

upyourdiva · 08/04/2011 00:19

My favourite's are George and Theodore (Theo) but if your DD's have unusual names it may not go as all those names are quite popular these days.

Which is your favourite?

peanutbutterkid · 08/04/2011 04:33

Tell us your DDs' names; plenty of non-trad names are good for boys.

Bubbaluv · 08/04/2011 06:16

Caspar - would have to be SOOOO cool and good looking to carry it off.
George - strong and masculine but still somehow affectionate
Henry - as above but softer
Maxwell - Max is great but v popular round these parts
Theodore - don't like it. Somehow a but poncey (and I am quite poncey myself).
William - Very nice. Good nns.

Bubbaluv · 08/04/2011 06:18

How unusual are your girls' names?

NatMac · 08/04/2011 06:55

My DD's are called Saffron and Beatrice (Saffy and Bea at home...)

I like Henry, George and Theo. I think William is going to become a very popular name this year so I would be a bit wary of it.

NatMac · 08/04/2011 07:10

IKWYM about William! I'm starting to think the same. Have a lot of Georges and Henrys where we live - I tried out some name ideas the other day on a couple of nurses at my hospital appointment and they both rolled their eyes and said 'not more Georges and Henrys- every boy born here recently has been one!'. So I'd use them as middle names prob.

Am worried about using a name that is too 'far out' as a first name but want something that's not too popular either - a very tricky path to find! (esp as my 6 year old now claims to hate her name - Saffron).

George, Henry and William are my favourites from your list.

Good solid names that will suit both young and old.

The other two are ok but really dislike Caspar.

upyourdiva · 08/04/2011 10:02

How about

Kenneth
Ruraidh
Anthony
Anton
Charles
Nicholas

All tradtional yet modern IYKWIM. I don't think any of them are overly popular (round here anyway).
