Aidan vs Issac vs...- what to do if you can't agree?!!

Hi all
We still have two and a half weeks to go and partner and i cannot agree! We have narrowed down again to Aidan, Benjamin, Joshua, Julian, Issac. My preferences are 1. aidan and 2. issac. My partner says he thinks that Aidan sounds 'too cold' (???) - i LOVE it, and it's irish which was something that I feel is important (am half irish and love the names). What do you do if you can't 100% agree?!! How do i persuade him? This is his 4th child and my first, so I thought that would give me extra bargaining power?!!Partner loves Issac , and could be shortened to Zac. Is this common ? Feedback or tips on persuading gratefully received!

I would go with Aidan because otherwise you wouldn't want to be forever correcting people even though they've spelt it right.

OOps bronze, I meant Isaac! Bit worrying that I can't even spell it...

Aidan is lovely, as it Joshua

could you test out the name for a day on the bump and see how it sounds?

I loved a boys name when PG with DD (didnt know what we were having) and DH hated it with a passion

overtime he has grown to love the name and looks like its a cert if we have a boy this time so they can definitely come round if you mention the name enough :-) ........

Thanks 4 the advice. I will keep testing it out on Bump and hope that over the next 2 weeks he will come round. Just wanted a name we both loved, which we had for if it was a girl! Disappointed about the difference of opinion but maybe thats just how it goes sometimes..

What was your chosen name?

What good taste you have. Aidan, Isaac and Benjamin were all on my shortlists (although went for Adam and Luke with my DS's). Aidan possibly just edges it over Isaac if I had to choose.

i really dislike Aiden. i'm not sure why... it's fairly irrational. that and Hayden.

so i would go with Isaac

SolarPanel · 01/04/2011 14:23

Isaac is a popular name at the moment and I don't think it's unusual to use Zac as a shortening of it. I think it's OK, no strong feelings either way.

I really like Aidan. It's a classic name of an old saint, and an underused name just now.

I also like Joshua and Julian (which is nice and underused and comes from the Latin Julius), but am not keen on Benjamin.

mybootsaremuddy · 01/04/2011 21:01

I like both Isaac and Aidan. I know 2 Aidans 1 has nn Adie and the other Denny. There is an Isaac in dcs school who has nn Ike but i think Zac is fab.

PorkChopSter · 01/04/2011 21:03

Aidan - a fine name, I know one but that is it.
Benjamin - like it but v popular (and not very Irish)
Joshua - tonnes of them about
Julian - bit wimpy
Issac - surely it's spelt Isaac?

fizzybagpuss · 01/04/2011 21:07

My ds is named Izaak nn Zak.

Mousesmummy · 01/04/2011 21:38

You push, you get to name . . . end of Smile

Raahh · 01/04/2011 21:38

I love Isaac (not Issac!, looks wrong)- was my choice had dd2 been a boy, nn Ike.

Not as keen on Aidan, but still a fine name.

Good luck xx

I really like Isaac, would have called Ds that only DH vetoed it.
Not too keen on Aidan, to me it's a middle aged accountants name but then I live in Ireland, I think it has different associations in the UK.
