It's scottish, I'm sure; I love it - but what do you think?

I often feel the overly feminine names can make life difficult for girls. It is fine if you are very girly but what if you aren't? Personally I think a stronger name is more likely to let a girl decide her personality for herself and the nicknames can be girly if they turn out to be girly girls.
I love Esme and know a very delicious, spirited and strong Esme Grin but FWIW I imagine a female Brodie as strong, beautiful and with a mind of her own!

It's not terrible on a girl but she will be mistaken for a boy. How about Bridie?

ValiumSingleton · 23/03/2011 21:21

eeeooo I like celtic names (Irish, Scottish and Welsh) but Brodie!? for a girl? is that usual in Scotland?

meditrina · 23/03/2011 23:30

It doesn't do it for me, sorry. My first thought was "The Pride of Miss Jean ...."

DELHI · 24/03/2011 09:00

Not being sarcastic, Fixit - you asked 'what do you think?' of this name. That's what I think of it. There's no point asking if you just want everyone to agree with you.

I know one wee boy called Brodie..when he was born everyone when "WHAT"...I'm Scottish and grew up near Brodie so to much it's just a bit odd....!!

BilboBloggins · 24/03/2011 11:50

I love it, but I am Scottish.
Wasn't there a Brodie in Neighbours or Home and Away?

TheFantasticFixit · 24/03/2011 12:47

Haha Bilbo that's what comes to my mind when I think of a male Brodie!

RueLaChesty: So glad I am not mad or the only one who loves it for a girl!

Delhi: Your comment was rude then, if not sarcastic. I don't expect everyone to agree with me; that's why I wrote 'What do you think?'. You'll note that I haven't mentioned others who have simply said that they don't like it - because I specifically found your comment sarcastic. Your comment also made the suggestion that all baby girls must have a 'feminine' name or they won't be 'pretty' which I am afraid that I distinctly disagree with. Hmm

Anyway, I do like the name but after a bit of thought think that it might be a bit bonkers without a scottish connection to 'place' it. CarrotsandCelery; that's exactly what I love about both names but now very persuaded by Esme!

I think its more of a boys name.
Also one of the blokes in Jaws was Brody IIRC. Which makes it cool Grin

Carrotsandcelery · 24/03/2011 13:58

Esme is lovely Grin
