Zachary, Zachaby or Zachaeus??

My son was born a few weeks ago and we're calling him Zach... BUT we haven't registered his birth yet as we really can't decide whether to just put 'Zach' on the birth certificate or to have a more 'formal' name which he has got the option of using if he wants when he's older. If we do, I can't decide between these (don't really like Zachariah):

Zachary

Zachaby

Zachaeus

Thoughts please!

I'd go with Zachary or just Zach or Zack.

EllenJane1 · 20/03/2011 01:09

Zachary. The others sound like you are trying too hard.

PepsiPopcorn · 20/03/2011 01:09

Zacchaeus (with double c) is a great name and a nice change from the very popular Zachary.

I like Zachary as well. Haven't heard of Zachaby, and think you'd always be correcting people who think it's Zachary.

AlmightyCitrus · 20/03/2011 01:10

I don't see why you can't just go with Zach, but if you want a "full name" then I'd go for Zachary.

poppydaisy · 20/03/2011 09:35

I like the look and sound of Zacchaeus. And how about Zachariah?

OTheHugeManatee · 20/03/2011 09:38

Zaccheus sounds like a food additive to me Confused

poppydaisy · 20/03/2011 09:42

You mean Saccharin Smile - thats the artificial sweetener.

OTheHugeManatee · 20/03/2011 09:45

I know. It was a joke Grin

jellybeans · 20/03/2011 11:31

just Zach if that is what you will call him all the time.

LillieThePink · 21/03/2011 00:31

Thanks for the replies - they've helped me narrow it down. Looks like Zachary is the popular choice if we go for a full version... Want to make sure we get it right!

Zachary is a very good choice.
I know a Zack and people keep on calling him Zachary by mistake, assuming that is his full name.
Other long versions will be less familiar and require spelling etc

wellwisher · 22/03/2011 00:49

Zachary is nice. Are the others actual names or have you made them up? Confused

Don't you know the Sunday School song that starts"Zacchaeus was a very little man.."

PepsiPopcorn · 22/03/2011 11:15

I don't know that song, usedtobe. Yeah, he was in the Bible because he was short - he was a tax collector who climbed a tree to try to see Jesus. Everyone else shunned him because of his job, but Jesus has dinner with him. I think it's a great story and really like the name!

MoonGirl1981 · 22/03/2011 20:23

I have a Zacharias. Calls himself Zach though.

Zachary is nice, and not too overused!

Tortoise · 22/03/2011 20:25

I have a Zachary. Always called Zach but, like you, i wanted a full name on his birth certificate.

bristols · 22/03/2011 20:28

Why not just have Zach? If that's what you call him, that's what he'll always be anyway. I don't really understand about having a full name on the birth certificate, it just seems to complicate things.

Hulababy · 22/03/2011 20:31

Zachary, or Zachariah maybe?

applecakesarenice · 23/03/2011 21:02

Moongirl1981

Zachary is extremely overused here. DD has 4 in her class and 3 in the parallel class. We worked out that we know 25 aged 5 and under.

KatieWatie · 24/03/2011 10:49

Zachary - tbh the others sound like you're trying too hard
