Bridie was my mothers name - she died when I was young. My daughter will is due around her anniversary.
I really don't like the name Bridie but would be open to having some derivation of it as my childs second name.
We are 90% decided that babys first name is Hannah.

Bridget - hate it
Brid - no
Bree - too desperate housewives
Bea - maybe, but bares little resemblance to Bridie!

Am I missing anything obvious?

Breagh is pronounced Bree-ah (sometimes shortened to Bree). Is that any better?

(PS - pse someone correct me fast if I've not spelt it properly!)

(PPS - also sorry if you knew all that already - I'm a bit cotton-wool brain with a cold and not always sure if I'm making sense).

What month was you mother born in, maybe have that as a middle name or the flower for that month, or even the gem for that month. Maybe some suggestions there. It is hard when trying to pay tribute to someone when you dont like their name.

Some interesting ideas here.
She died when I was quite young so sadly I don't know much about what she liked. Her birth month was January.

Any thoughts on Hannah Bree Keary?
Or Hannah Dee Keary?

January, the flowers are Snowdrop or carnation
the gem of january is the garnet

Just read up about carnations and they are associated with gratitude and love for their parents. Carnation latin name is Dianthus, so maybe a varient of that name.

Though in japan the flower for january is the camelia.

Also just found out that Bridie as we know is the nn of Brighid who was the celtic goddess of hearth and home and her symbol was the Rowan tree.
Maybe this is all going a bit to far for you though.

If you really don't like the name then don't use it. No point making up another name that wasn't your mother's.

Eirlys is Welsh for snowdrop. Getting a bit away from Bridie but the January theme might have more possibilities.

Have you considered using a third middle name to reduce the rhyming of Bridie and the surname? Hannah Bridie Frances.. Hannah Bridie Miriam .. Hannah Bridie Rose..
