Me and DH are finding it really hard to agree on boys names there's not a lot I like and most that I do he doesn't. We have a few but I just like them, don't love them, has anyone named their baby something they just liked and grown it love it?? (the name not the baby)Smile

Our names are:

Jamie
Rhys
Cahir (Irish name)

I know my dh wasn't convinced about DD's name but definitely grew to love it, it seems to suit her so well IYSWIM? I think as long as you like a name you will probably grow to love it because of its association with your child.

Sure, when DS was born I spent the first few weeks convinced he looked more like an Andrew! His real name was DHs choice, it took a while for me to settle into it, but it really suits him.

DD wanted to call him Barry. Now I definately knew he wasn't a Barry!

Your choices are lovely, I especially like Jamie. How do you pronounce Cahir?

My ds, didn't have a name for a week, because we couldnt agree, finally settled for Izaac, I liked it but didn't love it, but now 11 years on, I couldnt imagine calling him anything else, and really do love it.

Dh chose dd's name, sophie. I liked it but wasnt sure, still not 100% convinced but 90% sure that i love it. I chose Archie and dh was the same,he loves it now! Grin

DS1's name was chosen by DH for a v personal reason.

I loved the reason but was quite meh about the name. Now love the name, because it is DS1's and therefore special.

I don't love DS name, William.

But he's named after a West Ham old boy, Billy Bonds. And the last conversation I had with my dad when he was dying in hospital was talking about the best West Ham player he'd ever seen, and he named Billy.

So the name seemed right. Particularly when I remembered than his name is William Arthur and my dad was Arthur.

So I love why DS is called Billy, not particularly the name IYSWIM?

Its good to know that some people have named their child a name they haven't loved. Make's me feel a bit better but i just really want to love it from the start Sad

Cahir is pronounced exactly how it looks ca- hir.

I love DD2's first name but I am lukewarm about her middle name. Mumsnet collectively hates it (which is why I'm not telling Wink). I was going to give her Eliza as a middle name, but DP fell in love with the middle name she has which is radically different to Eliza! We couldn't come to any kind of compromise so the night before the registra's appointment (on day 40 of the 42 allowed) we flipped a coin for the right to pick the middle name. I actually won it, but I have never seen him look so heartbroken. He really was mortified. As I was walking into the office I knew that Eliza didn't mean half to me what his choice meant to him so I said it. He actually jumped out of his chair and hugged me as I spoke, he moved so fast the registra jumped and you could see she had no idea what just happened haha!

So DD2 has a name I would give 4 out of 10 to, but she has a really good story about why!

DD's name, Isabella, was very much a compromise as we couldn't agree, we both like it but after 4 years I still can't say I have grown to love it or that I can't imagine her being called anything else, which I hear so often, there are still lots of names I would prefer her to be called.
On DS we were lucky that we found a name, Reuben, that we both love. I feel kind of bad that I love his name and not hers. Then I do love the children both the same so that's the main thing!
